Let's be honest. ITV is in a mess. It needs to sort it all out.
The presentation. The channels. The schedules. The potential is there. But they're just not seeing it. So, what needs to be done?
Presentation
Okay, where the hell are they going with it? Here are my suggestions:
-- An overhaul of presentation is necessary. Just an idea. The 'i t v' text I think should be white. It should always be white. They need to stick to one logo, I've chosen the stacked.

-- The News needs sorting out too, new set, logo, presentation. It was vastly improved last time, but still needs work.
-- ITV Day is a bad idea, it needs the axe, it's just splitting the channels up further and confusing the viewers as we lose the ITV1.
Scheduling
ITV schedules are crap. Period. They HAVE to stop relying on Corobloodynation Street to get the ratings, sandwiching it inbetween shows to get good ratings. It must STOP. Same with Emmerdale being on everyday that God sends.
-- Coronation Street and Emmerdale back to thrice weekly. Imperative.
-- News schedule overhauled. 10.30pm bulletin is an obstacle for anything airing at 10pm and also anything longer than 90 minutes airing at 9. Here's my suggestion:
ITV Lunchtime News at 1.30pm (1 hour)
ITV Evening News at 6.00pm (1 hour)
ITV Late News at 11.00pm (30 minutes)
-- CStreet airs Mon Weds Fri 7.30pm, Emmerdale on Tues Weds Thurs at 7.00pm. Any spare slots in the 7-8pm hour are filled with regional programming or extra episodes of Emmerdale & Corrie if absolutely necessary, ie if there's a heart-stopping storyline which demands an hour-long episode.
-- At 8pm we start to see some home-grown documentaries, lifestyle shows, and a revamped Tonight with Trevor, which airs on Monday for an hour.
-- The Bill moves to 9pm on Thursdays, once a week.
-- Dramas and Films start at 9pm.
The ITV Channels
-- ITV2 is an entertainment channel. Duh. So no more Corrie/E'Dale repeats. Sort out a decent daytime lineup and have the primetime filled with new programming, reality shows, American Idol, perhaps a daily music show or an entertainment news bulletin.
-- ITV3 is a showcase channel, broadcasting the best classic dramas and US imports, so basically it stays the same, apart from same-night repeats of Emmerdale and Corrie starting at 11pm or something.
-- ITV1 is a mixture of the above, providing a bit for everyone.
-- ITV Kids, the joint venture with Nickolodeon, a rival to CBBC, showing babies/little kiddies shows in the morning and into afternoon and then 6-12 year old programming in the afternoon followed by teen programming such as 'Girls in Love' until the channel closes at 7pm.
-- ITV News Channel, self-explanatory.
That's all, sorry this is long, but I think ITV need to buck it's ideas up otherwise it won't do well to keep up in the fierce multi-channel battle - especially with the impending digital switchover...
Any thoughts?
