Johnny Vegas has now appeared in two programmes recently:-

Ideal on BBC Three and
Dead Man Weds on ITV1

I feel Johnny has performed particularly well in both programmes and really enjoyed both series. I never appreciated Johnny Vegas before both these series and hope that the current run of Ideal is shown on BBC2 later in the year. Looking at the BBC Comedy website it states that there are only six episodes in the current run of Ideal but it feels like at least six have already aired with at least one more still to come.
The storylines are simple and falls into a similar vein of Dead Man Weds where it was poorly recieved due to it being classed as a comedy! Both programmes aren't particularly an exact comedy but driven more by storylines with the odd laugh thrown in.

I have enjoyed both programmes even though the last episode of Dead Man Weds was moved to a grave yard slot.
Therefore should ITV try any new comedy series out on ITV2 first to see how they are percieved and then decide where to schedule them depending on feedback and ratings? Dead Man Weds wasn't as bad as some tv critics made out!

It's a shame that Dead Man Weds failed IMO, granted it wasn't the funniest thing ever, it was good for ITV and one of the best Comedy/Drama's they've produced in recent years. I was reading in the Daily Star the other day and their critic said it was a shame that ITV had binned it.

The best bet for ITV is if they repeated it at a different time where they know that the ratings would be better, being scheduled against Desperate Housewives is somewhat unfair. That tatic worked for The Sketch Show, the first few episodes were shown at 10.30pm on a Monday, but due to News events at the time it got pushed around and they showed the last few on a Sunday at 6.30pm which worked very well and it got a second series!

Normally Johnny Veags can be quite annoying for being too drunk in somethings, but in Dead Man Weds he shaked this repuation off and he was very good in his role, and he wasn't drunk either.

It's so short-sighted of ITV to 'ditch' shows like this so soon after they've started. So many great comedy programmes have had poor ratings in their first series, but thanks to forward-thinking scheduling (mainly by the BBC and C4) have gone on to become huge hits by the time they're repeated or re-commissioned. Blackadder, The Fast Show and Phoenix Nights are just a few which spring to mind. How can they expect a programme like this to gain a following after only a couple of episodes?
