Sorry I wasn't entirely clear on this it seems.
The shot of the studio would be fixed...like a wide-angle shot of the studio.
Huw would just have to walk up to his little table and sit down.
And this would be no more costly or difficult than getting Huw to read the headlines in between the thunderclaps. It's a small matter of timing.
I'm proposing this as an acceptable alternative to the clock, which seems to be out of fashion and not likely to return.
But I like Re-it-er-ate's point about News specials, breaking news, etc....instead of having a "LIVE" shot of the news set, in these cases a wide-angle pan of the BBC Newsroom (say, from the 2nd floor where the morning bulletin's are read) could occur as the announcer says, e.g., "Now we're going over to Darren Jordon for a news bulletin."
The idea is that the "life" behind BBC News gets presented in the idents. That way the newsreaders aren't just stuffed shirts.
