Sorry I wasn't entirely clear on this it seems.

The shot of the studio would be fixed...like a wide-angle shot of the studio.

Huw would just have to walk up to his little table and sit down.

And this would be no more costly or difficult than getting Huw to read the headlines in between the thunderclaps. It's a small matter of timing.

I'm proposing this as an acceptable alternative to the clock, which seems to be out of fashion and not likely to return.

But I like Re-it-er-ate's point about News specials, breaking news, etc....instead of having a "LIVE" shot of the news set, in these cases a wide-angle pan of the BBC Newsroom (say, from the 2nd floor where the morning bulletin's are read) could occur as the announcer says, e.g., "Now we're going over to Darren Jordon for a news bulletin."

The idea is that the "life" behind BBC News gets presented in the idents. That way the newsreaders aren't just stuffed shirts.

Could I please have some serious criticism about this?

This concept is not one, which would be approximate I with the view on my television in high degrees comfertable. In Iceland pride we on television representation intelligent in high of degrees, and this is too, how I learned from your languages, which I should to be supposed to describe it as ridiculous suggestion?

Oh I do long for the BBC Balloons again! What was Hegessey thinking when she adopted these crap idents - rant rant, bloody rant! Rolling Eyes

(BTW - Did anyone hear the Tapdogs ident playing during the signed repeat of DIYSOS? It was then used for the next programme. There was also a full clean BBC One to BBC News 24 crossover ident - but that's nothing new...)

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with the clock.

I think the idea of filming them sitting down etc would look a bit shoddy. It'd be as if somebody had accidentally pressed the wrong button on the console and switched to the studio feed too early.

But I do think that if you were going to have something featuring newsreaders, they would have to be dancing. After all, it seemed to work in that Morecambe and Wise Christmas special.

I think the idea is to do it live.

In Germany on the ARD they have a standard ident into the news, and then after ident, but before the news, they cut to a blurred view of the newsroom with a digital clock overlayed which counts down, and when it reaches 18:00 for example, it bursts into the titles.

I don't see why they can't use a digital clock: everyone expects an analogue one.

Is that in fact a regional news magazine show at 18:00?

"Die Tagesschau" is on ARD-1 "Das Erste" weekdays at 20:00h.
