Nothing on Spotlight, no.

Nothing on BBC Local Radio down here either. However, they may not mention it as the BBC LR service down here on a Sunday night goes to about 8 stations! I expect Radios Devon and Cornwall to mention it tomorrow morning.

Sad News for those of us in the South West.

Thanks for relaying it to us

Again, from TV Ark, Ian Stirling with Ruth Langsford on TSW's final link
Just to back up my original post, friends and family said they saw the news on Westcountry News this evening, athough there were no details.

Rather than the bland continuity voice, Ian was a true local TV personality. On his gravestone he is fully entitled to the following words "He made a difference..." wouldn't we all like to have that said of us.

Its very sad news of Ian, and a sad day for Regional ITV in the South West! Hope ITV Westcountry make a special program as he was a great face and will be sadly missed!

Sad Loss indeed, he would of been great in Westcountry's program about the history of ITV in the South West.

Yes his comments after Coronation Street are legendary. He used to love the programme and always seemed to say what everyone was thinking.

As expected, Judi Spiers has announced Ian's death on her Radio Devon show just now. She said he died at his home in France at the end of last week after a short illness, she then went on to explain about his life at Westward and TSW. No mention of how old he was though.

So, another legend has left us. Ian's death has left a hole in the South West. I wanted my 1000th post here to be a nice happy one, unfortunately, due to this news, it isn't. My sincere condolences to all Ian's friends family and colleagues.

Ian was born in Levan, Fife on 28 October 1941.
He was educated at Glasgow High School and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Drama and Music. He joined Westward TV in 1974.
We'll miss you Ian.

That's very sad news. I was very fond of Ian, and he made watching television in the South West a real pleasure when I was growing up. He was only a couple of years older than my mum, so he wasn't particularly old either.
