Missed the report myself, but I understand that Ian Stirling has died.

For those of you that didn't know him, he was a VERY popular in-vision continuity announcer on TSW. He then moved to do things for Westcountry Television.

There's a clip of him on
this page courtesy of TV Ark.

With deepest respect, I don't think alot of people would know who he is (including young TSW viewers and everybody else outside the TSW area)

I appreciate that, but there are a lot of people on here that do remember TSW, and how it fought to remain a real local station. And those that do remember him, will remember him with great fondness.

Just been trying to find out any more on this news and I have been unsuccessful so far.

If all true then one of ITV's regional legends will be missed by all long term South West viewers.

Yes, been trying to find out myself. It was on Westcountry News apparantly.

Local news on the internet, especially at weekends is dire.

I don't think it's for YOU to judge that. Please leave it to those who read the thread.

One of the old-time greats, from the Roger Shaw and Jenny Clulow era.

Very sad to hear that news, and I'm NOT from the south-west.

Spotlight is on at 7.50. Hopefully something on there.

Another great gone.

First Richard Whiteley, and now Ian.... Sad

Remember it's just hear say at the moment as we don't have any official to go by but let's keep it into context please. Otherwise you will be getting people going on about how healthy is Fred Dinenage, how long will he have left etc.

That's so sad if its true... I'd imagine "Auntie" Judi Spiers will know something if she's been told - and she might have something to say on her Radio Devon show tomorrow. I'm keeping an ear out on Radio Devon online to hear if there's any news.

Oh my God!

One of my fave's of old..... I used to love his babblings at the end of TSW's night shift when they closed for the night. Great!

He is a South West legend who'll be sorely missed by many locals down here. Me included!

I'm having a drink for you mate!

God bless and condolances to his family.

Presumably there wasn't anything; nothing on Ceefax/Teletext either at this time.

If it is true, what a deeply sad week this has been for regional television.

Ian can't be/have been that old, but neither was Richard Whiteley.
