The man who brought Francis Urquhart in the House of Cards to life has died suddenly at the age of 72.

A fantastic actor, and as still in the game. He is in a new film due out next month and was about to film an episode of Midsummer Murders.

His family must be in shock. I can't imagine a fit and healthy man in his early 70s to just suddenly pass away completely unexpected. My thoughts go to his family.

that's typical of the media, some modern day marylin monroe who's famous for being famous gets a bigger mention that an actor who's been famous for nearly 5 decades.

didn't he play the first doctor in one of the Dr Who specials?

No, that was the late Richard Hurndall.

It is sad when anyone dies and everyone deserves some respect even if you didn't like or respect them when they were alive. Anna Nicole Smith left behind a tiny baby who will no doubt suffer and one day read things said about her mother.

Ian Richardson was one of the greatest actors I've seen. His performance in The Final Cut, House of Cards and To Play the King opened my eyes up to a lot that goes on and his death will be a great loss to the world of entertainment.

I didn't watch much of Ian Richardson's work but saw clips from House of Cards and must say his sidelines to camera were sheer brilliance.

RIP
