The Football League has made the announcement, basically telling ITV Digital to pay up or else.

Oh dear - I think we all realise this more or less confirms the demise of ITV Digital.
What happens now (well, when ITV Digital is forced to close) - will the government or some public body now have to pick-up control of the allocation of digital channels on DTT?
As a subnote, I find it rather bizarre the football clubs have basically come back and said they want the service provider to go under - surely they will got paid nothing if ITV Digital is closed?

The Football League in looking through the contract believe that even if ITV Digital goes under, Granada and Carlton will still be liable for payment in full.
Don't forget the innocents in this dispute...

Still on News 24 though. I haven't checked out ITN (can't until tomorrow) and I don't know about Channel 4 news or 5 news? I'd image ITN would report it on all their other services even if it's not on ITV News - I doubt they're that fond of ITV atm after greatly reducing their money and removing all remaining ITN branding from it.
If ITV Digital is gone 'within weeks' then it could actually be that Shop will last slightly longer than ITV Digital.
I just hope that it's failure won't scare off anyone else from trying pay TV on DTT. It's not ever going to be viable enough to take on Sky or cable, but a service with the right channels aimed at the right customers without any dilusions of taking on Sky could work (which is why I think Sky should do it).

It is reported on the ITV News website.

I subscribe to ITV Digital, but I would be perfectly happy to see them go bust. As long as I can keep my digibox for FTA channels, I don't care. I look forward to a FTA future for digital terrestrial television!

So ITV Digital has out done itself. Id like to have met the managing director of itvd cause basically he needs the sack. HE OR SHE IS BLOODY USELESS TRYING TO COMPETE WITH BSKYB. This could also see granada and carlton go into the red and severly damage itv channels as well. The government would probably bail itv out though to stop sky getting the complete market.
