Who has the rights to what?

UKTV Doc seem to have the rights to Deayton editions either early in the run or late in the run, (What about the middle years then?) & G2 have the rights to the guest presenter shows onwards.

The series Deayton started, but never finished, I'm guessing G2 have the rights from the Paul Merton episode onwards, but what about the first few Deayton episodes from that series? I've never seen them repeated !

UKTV Doc seem to run up to the last episode of the previous series, where Angus is 'ambushed' by Merton & Hislop.(Merton wears his famous 'News Of The World' T Shirt !), then go back to earlier episodes!

UKTV G2 and UKTV Documentary are both UKTV so I doubt there's any 'rights' issue as to which can show which. It's probably just an editorial decision.

Wish they show some from the mid-90's though. They're always either the very early ones (1990-1993) or more recent ones (1999-2006)

I'm more puzzled as to how Have I Got News For You fits into a channel called UKTV Documentary ! Why go to so much effort to compartmentalise channels into different genres, only to blur the boundaries again with the programming?

Agreed - HIGNFW should be on UKTV G1 or G2 not on a documentary channel! Honestly!

the early ones would fit better on UKTV History

There was a point where the copyright of the programme changed from the BBC to Hat Trick. I think it changed around the time when they adopted the guest presenter format.

It's always been a Hat-trick production.

I didn't say it hasn't.

The copyright of HIGNFY never used to belong to Hat Trick, it was always (c) BBC, until recently when it changed to (c) Hat Trick Productions.

Didn't notice that. However I think that's the case with all independent productions these days, broadcasters have less rights over indie programmes now
