But surely you realise that "the lines between radio and televsion are becoming blurred so it is not right to call BBC7 radio as it is much much more than that"
Ah I see, is this part of the "promise of the digital world" then?
oh yes - don't forget
"I'll be able to *SEE* radio"
BBC7 isn't a radio station, at least in the traditional sense. It's a digital (only) audio service, that isn't just broadcast via
radio waves. So, in essence, calling it Radio 7 is a misnomer. Anyway, that's all beside the point, and totally off topic.
'Radio' has come to mean an audio only service. Would you rather have a radio station or a 'digital only audio service'. And I disagree that it's not a radio station in the traditional sense. If you can receive it on a radio (which you can - a DAB receiver is still a radio) then it's a radio station. That it is carried on other platforms is irrelevant - and indeed very few national radio stations are broadcast purely via radio waves but they are still radio stations. It's just an 'it's digital so we treat it differently' stance from the BBC in giving it a daft name.
Yep, I thought Jack Dee did a fab job....I really am moving towards the idea of a rota of several hosts, who would do two or three shows per series. There really is a lot of good comedic talent out there, and HIGNFY is an excellent showcase for it.
Well the next two guest hosts are
Martin Clunes
(returning for second go) followed by
John Humphrys
, who may be available from Today in the near future anyway. The guests for this Friday's show are Linda Smith and the Earl of Onslow.
Quote:
Martin Clunes makes his second appearance as host of BBC ONE's Have I Got News for You this Friday, 24 October, at 9.30pm.
The regular team captains are Ian Hislop and Paul Merton and the guest panellists are comedian Linda Smith and the Earl of Onslow.
The following week - 31 October - the programme host will be Today programme presenter John Humphrys.
Have I Got News for You returned for a new series last Friday (17 October) with Jack Dee as the guest host.
I had a problem last Friday, in that the last ten minutes of Have I Got News on BBC1 overlapped with the beginning of Grumpy Old Men on BBC2.
I was expecting to drop ten minutes of one or the other onto tape when I started watching Have I Got News at 21:30.
By the time it got to 21:50 and the start of Grumpy Old Men, I'm afraid I was so sick and tired of Jack (boring or what) Dee that I simply switched over to BBC2 without starting a tape.
No, sorry folks, but the guest presenter idea just ISN'T working; so I won't even bother with the top of the remaining shows in the series.
Sorry, BBC, but you need to put SOMEBODY in there PERMANENTLY and not keep swapping around. Until you do, I'm afraid you've lost a viewer who HAD been watching since series one, programme one.
I wish they'd just give Angus the job again!! Or if not, give it to Clunes. They are the two people that people would like to see hosting the show.
I agree with Nick, the guest presenter idea is getting tired. There will never be any constant flow and format until a proper presenter is decided. I do find it interesting that Clunes is back for a second go...maybe the BBC/Hat Trick want to give him another screen test just to make sure that he can live up to his performance. It was rumoured of course, as soon as he presented it, that he had got the job.

I think that might be the idea - drag the guest presenters out until things have cooled off a bit before offering Angus Deayton the job back. Either that, or they're keeping the guest presenter format going in case such a scandal should ever happen again, so that the presenter's ties with HIGNFY aren't so strong.
Since they are now entering the 2nd full series without a permanent presenter, it suggests to me that either they are never going to put a permanent presenter on, or else they are still hoping that there will come a time when Deayton could be asked to come back.
That said, I think Jack Dee was excellent and would love to see him on more often.
Is just me or did any one else think Charlotte Church did really well as host last series? When I heard she was doing it I thought she'd be awful, but she handled it really well.

I too anticipated she would be awful but the show turned out ok. It was a feast of editing though, so perhaps only her best moments were kept in.
Its worth remembering though that virtually *every* witticism and quip the host makes is scripted.
