Thought we may as well have a thread to discuss how television stations are covering the Hutton enquiry.

I've just seen Sky News open with special opening graphics. Does anyone know when this started?

We've had about nine of these but they always vanish.

I'm more interested in how the international - particularly American - channels are covering this. Any of our overseas members care to comment.

They aren't covering it, or at least they weren't until today. Tony's performance caused a sniffle of interest, but they've hardly bothered with what came before and what's going to come after.

The fact that the anchors have to explain the reasons behind why the inquiry is taking place in the first place whenever they start talking about it is indication enough that this is not a news story etched in the minds of Americans.

They have more important things to concentrate on, like Arnold.

Sky's opening titles are a bit... hmm! As a rule, broadcasters only zoom into the eyes of killers, so what are they suggesting about dear Tony, I wonder?

That said, I watched about 30 mins of coverage this morning and Sky whipped the pants of the Beeb, even ITV did better. News 24 were there with two presenters, one correspondent and a delayed transcript. Sky were ahead by about 5 or 10 minutes, with at least 6 people on hand to discuss events.

Have they had a 'court artist' drawing of Tony yet? Anyone know if those drawings are re-sold to make cash for the artist?

The media is already propagating the verdict of the enquiry that the Establishment want enmeshed in the minds of the proletariat.

The official explanation of the cause of death of David Kelly which the enquiry will determine
is that it was

"a failure of the system"

and that no blame for such a systemic failure can be attributed to the Dear Leader.

However, in order to satiate the calls for blood by the baying proletariat, politburo member
Geoffrey Hoon will be offered up as a sacrificial lamb on the altar of public appeasement.
