Picky! Anyway, MTV2 isn't on analogue, so you can scrap that theory.

The German version of it is still on analogue. It's called MTV2 POP, has the same graphics as TMF over here.
and is available on the same frequency of Astra 1 @ 19.2 east that MTV Europe to be on during the mid 90's.

MTV2 POP is also likely to available via German digital TV as well as the old analog frequencies . . .

Well, in the flat I lived in last year I could pick up fuzzy German MTV, as well as a couple of foreign-looking channels which were too distorted for me to make much out. I'm pretty sure it was leaking from next door - they had satellite.

I have experianced this too - during the summer (a good few years ago now, i admit - during the school/college summer holidays circa 1994-1997) where our normal ITV region would have a faint rolling picture behind it, I could pick up very distant regions with a perfectly clear picture. I live in Norfolk, and the only channels I can get normally are Anglia and Yorkshire. During such spells of atmospheric conditions, I could get far away regions like Meridian and Carlton/LWT with a near perfect picture. I was also able to pick up a strange music channel (may have been VH1) and some another foriegn channels.

Nobody nearby had an analog dish, but these broadcasts very fairly clear, and had sound.

Probably atmospheric conditions - same reasoning as to why you can often up loads of foreign (or further afield local) radio stations on medium wave radio after dark, even more so if you're near the coast.

Ah, I remember the days when Kiss FM was still good, Classic FM didn't exist and I could get Kiss whilst walking to my GCSE exams in North Bristol on a Walkman. Then Classic FM came on and ruined everything - they also cost my mate's mum £250 'cause he was using the frequency for the Wenvoe transmitter for his small pirate station. They DTI spanked him for the money, but obviously his mum paid.

Tell me about it - I live a few miles inland from the Lincolnshire coast and the medium wave band on my radio/cassette player's like the M25 in rush hour for the amount of foreign stations on it! Usually it's stations from France, Germany, Holland, Denmark and a few other Scandinavian stations...
