Really enjoyed this, thought it was very clever that they started back in the 1930s and continued it through to the 1990s. And how cool is it that the 'televised bingo' that he thought up in the early 80s is now on TV with Bingo Lotto - although I imagine Joe Pasquale wouldn't have been his first choice to host.

Frankie Howerd next week as played by David Walliams!

Yes, I am enjoying this BBC FOUR season. It's actually a good channel.

The only thing that really put me off the Hughie Green one was the bloke who played Jess Yates. Nothing wrong with the acting, but line where his wig met his forehead was very noticeable... and I kept thinking of the bank adverts he does

Well, it was a brilliantly written piece of drama, looking forward to the Frankie Howerd one next week.

"Oooh titter ye not!"

Trevor Eve's portrayal was brilliant although apparently Jess Yates's voice wasn't accurate..?

He had a Northern accent but not a Geordie one.

Yes - he had a North of England accent - although he actually spent his childhood in Llandudno where his mother ran a B & B. I met him once in 1982, and he was a very nice man indeed.

AIUI Mark Benton comes from Middlesbrough originally?

I watched the repeat of "Most Sincerely" on Friday night, well written and well acted even if some presentation parts were inaccurate Wink

Nice cameo by Sooty and Sweep as well, which I thought was a nice touch.

Is that anywhere near MIDDLESBROUGH?

It was also annoying when Heathrow Airport used to announce baggage from a TEESIDE flight instead of TEESSIDE!
(at least it arrived though - all but once)

Of course it's now Durham-Tees Valley Airport, makes it easier!

Well unless Middlesbrough, Teeside and Teesside have become acronyms recently, then no Wink

You're quite right, I should know better about the spelling of said town! A case of twit= typing whilst I'm tired. I've corrected it now, damage undone. No need to hang me from the Transporter Bridge just yet.

I think one has more chance of getting people to use the words "enormity" and "disinterested" correctly, than getting people to spell Middlesbrough and Teesside correctly Laughing

Durham-Tees Valley is for brand new customers only Wink

'Salright Rodger, what you did was forgivable.

Now calling Mark Benton a Geordie on the other hand.... I notice Simon has gone quiet on that one Laughing

Well in my defence, it's not the first time I've made that mistake and I'm sure it won't be the last. For years I thought a former GH actress was from the North East, but when she contacted me last year she corrected me that she was from Yorkshire. While I was happy to admit my mistake, the fact remains the voices do sound similar.

The Liverpool and Geordie accents can also sometimes be confused. There was a Scouse girl at school I initially thought was Geordie, and I was never sure where to place Elizabeth Estensen - an actress from the North East but who played a Liverpudlian in The Liver Birds.

You need to get your hearing tested! You'll be telling me Robert Mugabe has a west country accent next!
