ITV really do give themselves alot of work with generic idents. Most people don't even take notice of itv.com anyway. What is the point in all this faffing around, the channel region would do me with a seperate identity!
Well quite, and when you think of the 3500 individual idents which were produced in 1999 for the itv hearts it is (1) no wonder they're so crap and uninspired, and (2) amazing they bother. Surely it would be easier to provide a standard template (you put the itv1 logo here, your logo there and the itv.com at the bottom) and let the regions do their own thing?

Well apparently that's how it's going to be done next year.
Well if your sources are correct Whataday that's the best piece of news I've heard in ages
Might just get a bit of variety for a change. I wonder if that's why UTV and SMG are using ITV1's Christmas graphics this year, ie they've been brought aboard by this new proposal?
I'm sure not even they would feel their branding was threatened by the placing of an ITV/ITV1 logo on their idents....

Just saw the HTV Wales Xmas ident before the lunchtime news, maybe they are 'Carltonised' as you call it but they still look brilliant and festive.
FPM:)
Oh, there's nothing wrong with having Carltonised idents! I like them (just as long as the HTV name stays!)

I hope they don't touch the name Whataday, it would be disasterous. I think if they ever tried the National Assembly for Wales would intervine. It's a national station and not regional.
And my mate's dad at the Welsh Assembly says that if/when the whole network comes under one name, it will be a requirement for the station to be called ITV1 Wales, with the name Wales onscreen (as with BBC1/2)
i think that itv1 is going to end up a copy of the bbc1 network where 'the regions' only opt out for a news programme and the odd political programme.
hopefully the itc will instruct that in the 'nations' more local programmes must be made to compete with the large local output of bcc wales, bbc scotland and bbc ni
so the 'nations' should be ok but it looks like the english regions are eventually going to end up as itv1 with very little local input!
