I believe that there is a UK studio contributing to the US MTV appeal special - initially quite a small line-up, but now appearing to have quite a few major names in the line-up who are closer to London than LA or NY.

In the UK, 'Help For Haiti Now' will air on MTV from 1am on January 23. It will also be broadcast on further digital channels and online.

Maybe BBC3 will get the repeat runs?

Will probably get shown on Viva, which is one of MTV's channels.

Just in case anyone is in a position to help (other than watching a TV concert), you can Text GIVE to 70077 to donate £5 to Disasters Emergency Appeal for Haiti.

£5 goes to DEC. You pay £5 + standard network SMS rate.

Do we know with the DEC how much goes towards immediate aid and how much is put into more long term projects, because with aid seemingly not getting to the people who need it (either unable to get Into the country or be distributed around the country) it's questionable whether donating to any short-term appeal will really make a difference on top of what already has been donated.

How your money is spent
Appeal funds raised are distributed to the DEC member agencies that are best placed to use them.We ensure that all money raised is spent in a timely, cost-effective and efficient way.

Thanks. This press release about the Tsunami - http://www.dec.org.uk/item/389 - probably answers my question more about the long term projects - the £392m raised in the Tsunami appeal rebuilt over 13,000 homes, 55 schools and 68 health centres.

It seems that Hospital Studios are involved in the UK part of the concert.

Yep - think they are (or were) owned by Dave Stewart (half of the Eurythmics, who were heavily involved in charitable stuff in the days of Band Aid). I believe the crew covering the concerts are doing it for free. It is also one of the only HD studios in London - and MTV is HD in the US now. (Which may be why they aren't using MTV's Camden studios - or they may have prior commitments?)

It will be shown at 1am on Saturday on BET International, CNN International, National Geographic and ALL MTV Channels (including VIVA, MTV(R), MTV Hits).

The BBC have also said that there will be opts in on the BBC News Channel throughout the night. I think most independent radio stations also have access to it and they can opt-in and out whenever they want.

Wasn't the standard network rate scrapped for DEC appeals in the past? Shame it hasn't been this time, even if it is just 10p.

I don't think so - certainly for Comic Relief and Children In Need it was £5 + the standard rate.

For those of you that are bothered, MTV US have opened up access to the concerts for worldwide viewers who can't watch it on TV...

Just go to www.mtv.com
