Just got a regional ident into The Dales Diary here on itv Tyne Tees and unusually, the anno wasn't promoting the network programme after the regional slot, unfortunately she mustn'y have seen Luke Caseys series before as she introduce the Dales
Dairy
- how I chortled!
The announcer tonight was one of the new ones I think, she obviously can't read, or someone can't type properly when drawing up the schedule!
Although regional announcers arn't coming back, I think they should get the local promo makers/local newsreaders etc to do the regional announcements, at least they'd know what the programme was called.

To be fair though, I doubt even the local station knows what their full portfolio of regional programmes is half the time - regional programming is no longer regionally comissioned, all comissioning of regional programmes is made firmly within the M25 (which is why any programming depicting 'typical life in the Westcountry TV region' will either involve lots of footage of Bretonside bus station in Plymouth (for 'I live in a town/city' type programming) or lots of footage of random rolling fields which could be mistaken for clips from the old Emmerdale Farm titles (for 'i don't live in a town/city).
Kind of reminds me of the regional idents Carlton introduced when they first ditched their brand name - Westcountry got a few shots of cliffs and fields because to people in London, that's what the south west is.
True Chris, but in this case the programme has been running since 1991 (1993 in the YTV area) so there really is little excuse. It's one of the very very few ITV regional programmes to have lasted the cutbacks. TTTV staff (and the old YTV pres people come to that) would never have made such a bad mistake.
I agree about getting local newsreaders/presenters to do the announcements for these programmes, it would bring back a sense of local identity to ITV without costing a penny or diminishing the "ITV brand" one iota.
Hell, you could even -- in regions which elected to do it -- get the on-duty newsreader (who is in the building all night in most cases) to appear in-vis before the programme from within the newsroom, with a brief rundown of local headlines beforehand. A pipe dream maybe but at least you wouldn't get this rubbish happening. The local news programmes make a point of cross-promoting these local productions, so this is the next logical step.
We also got an intro to the Granada regional programme, and also in the last week the granada ident has appeared, rather than a regular itv one, nice to see they havn't ditched it completly.
Not to mention that in the Tyne Tees area we were told that Crimefighters was in Sheffield, clearly referring to the YTV version of the programme which of course we don't get here.

They really are an utter disgrace aren't they?
The sad fact is that the vast majority of viewers don't even listen to the anno's - it washes over them. Much like DAZ washing powder being poured from a box. It's only the odd few tv 'fanatics' that spot these little differences. Sad but true!
I know, I used to be an anno.
