In my opinion, that storyline was one of H&A's best in recent years. And it's not over - her ghost returns to haunt the Bay again in a few months time on Five.

From what I've read in spoilers, some stories in Oz now seem to be very OTT, though in fairness I will wait and see how they play out.

Angie Russell's ghost?!

I don't suppose I should be surprised - after Ailsa's 'resurrection', Bobby's face appearing in Ails'a fridge door (many years ago) and other such incidents, it seems that the H&A writing team have a love of the surreal - at least they try something a little different...

I also like the way that former regulars relatively frequently turn up again to supplement the story and give you the feel that there is an extended H&A 'family' all over the place.

Whoops - I didn't actually mean 'ghost' in the literal sense this time. I meant that events from Angie's past are revealed and they affect some of the characters in a big way. Didn't want to spoil things by saying too much, that's all. But the end-of-season finale sees her name mentioned and a few characters being left open-mouthed!

Yes, H&A has never shied away from bringing back past characters for guest appearances like weddings and funerals. Unlike many other soaps, when people act like the characters never existed a few episodes after they've left! Like Scott and Charlene not returning for the funerals of Jim and Helen in Neighbours, for example!

On the other hand I always think that interlaced shooting makes soap drama look "realler" - as it is closer to how you see things in real life, and on the news etc.

I have always believed the exact reverse - untreated video makes you feel you are there amid the action. Filmic effect give an oppressive effect which is often unwarranted.

Thanks to out-take shows we see how much better programmes like Bad Girls and Hollyoaks could look; alas their producers are not for turning.

That's what I said - interlaced video (i.e. full field-rate normal video, untreated) looks real - processed video (where the fields are merged to remove any motion between them) looks more like film, and less real.

Thankyou.

Now then, I have not seen Home and Away this week, but, are we now seeing episodes shown in Australia in January of this year.?.

If so, how did we catch up so quickly.?.

I take it we are now seeing the 2004 Opening Titles.

On a related note, I have it on good authority that The Bill is to be made in HDTV from later on this year.

No, these episodes were shown in Australia last July. We are seeing the second version of the 2003 opening titles.

We will first see the 2004 titles on 23rd August

And as yet, Neighbours has not fallen victim to the HDTV revolution, though perhaps it ineviditably will someday.

Though when they do, there's nothing to stop them shooting at 50fps rather than the 25fps that H&A are using.

No Benjamin, the eps we are seeing on Five at the moment are from late July last year - we're due to reach the 2004 eps in late August.

Channel Seven updated the titles last July as the previous set weren't considered snappy enough. Also, they had a couple of new faces to add and felt this would have cramped up the titles as they stood.

Look out for more new titles on the 2004 eps, featuring the characters filmed in small groups - similar to the mid 90s titles filmed on the beach. There have been two versions of these so far this year - they were updated after only six weeks or so to reflect cast changes, and also because the actors names were initially in very small type, making them only barely legible.

I think RTE are about to hit the 2003 season finale in a week or so, though I'm not certain.
