The new season, surprisingly, didn't have a new opening sequence. The same shots are used now as were used during the last couple of weeks of 2004.
SPOILER: 2004 FINALE (highlight to read)
The 2004 finale was a gentle, family and community-spirit orientated episode, not a cliffhanger. The main storylines were the opening of Noah's Bar (in the Surf Club), a gathering for the Christening of baby Pippa (which had to be cancelled because the church burned down - off-screen), and some nice closing scenes showing the various characters at home and around the Bay relaxing after the get-together, while an old arrangement of 'Away in A Manger' plays as an underscore. In the final shot, the spirit of Noah appears and kisses Hayley as she sleeps. Paulini, runner-up of Australian Idol, appears as herself in this episode and sings a couple of songs. A nice warm episode; in my opinion what was needed after the high-drama and tragedies seen on-screen in 2004.

Any rumours as yet as to whether this will be a totally new opening sequence, or just an update to reflect cast changes?
i doubt a change in the opening credits style. Looks to be sticking to the same package.

I don't think so - Five have committed to the show for as long as it is made. Also the show is Five's second-highest rating programme (second only to
Crime Scene Investigation
) so I reckon they'd fight tooth-and-nail to keep it.
When you consider the failures that were Crossroads and Night & Day , if ITV wanted Home & Away back they'd have tried by now.

ITV owns 12% in Seven Network but they wouldn't be able to use this to buy back H&A at all. The only way they could get it would be to bid for it when Five's contract was up for renewal or came to an end.
The 12% used to be held by Granada and in 1999/2000 Seven and Granada had a joint production company (Red Heart) that was producing Home & Away. Something obviously wasn't working and Red Heart folded and H&A production went back to being an in-house Seven production.

Dont know if this has been mentioned before any where but i read on ITV website that it owns 12% stake in Channel 7, can it use this power to buy back a certain soap.
I guess this ownership was previously held by one of the regions.

I hear the recent Dancing with the Stars series (won by Bec Cartwright from H&A, by the way) was in fact produced by Granada. What arm of Granada is this?
