Yet more cuts to Home and Away tonight on Five - parts of the recap and three other scenes were censored. I think they're being very careful not to show anything which could be interpreted as 'teaching' kids how to abuse gas. This is the first time Five have taken the scissors to H&A, as far as I know. I can understand their viewpoint, but I do hope it's not going to become a trend.

Si-Co - I think you're right, this is the first time we've seen the show cut since it left ITV.

As I've said over at Back To The Bay it's something I worry is going to become the norm - what next? Entire episodes skipped? Bye-bye closing credits?

I see where they're coming from in that they realise the show is very popular with teenagers and always has been. But this is just making a mockery out of the whole channel-change, if it carries on. I'm sure we all agree that Five have treated the show with the respect it deserves which is more than could be said for ITV (who never even learned from their mistake because they went and gave both it's replacements similarly bad treatment!)

Let's hope Five don't let us down like ITV did.

Sorry if I have mentioned this before. But I really get annoyed at the end of H&A. I hate how with the new credits it fades out. To me it looses all sense of drama. There is no dramatic music or anything. That is one of the few things I hate about the new closing credits. I used to love how the waves crashed over the scene. Ah well...maybe they'll sort it with the next set of credits in a few years time!

I know what you mean! It's not as dramatic.

Five have also started cutting the omnibus!

A stroppy email is coming their way from me soon...

Sounds like a slightly extreme reaction, James, just because they've done it on this storyline. They have (as you admit) treated it very well since the move, so don't be too quick to kick them for a few edits.

I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean going from the episode into the credits (which fades much *less* than it did with the previous titles) or at the very end where the 7 screen comes up? Or something else altogether?

I mean where the episode ends then it just fades to black then the credits appear. Before I distinctly remember the waves crashed over the scene or appeared over them some how and dramatic music was palyed on top before the theme began. This always seemed to make everything very much dramatic! And I thought that was good!

Until 2000 it was

Cliffhanger -> Freeze Frame -> Next Time Promo (Australia Only) -> Closing Credits (Australia Only from 1993)

Then 2000-2003 was

Cliffhanger -> Producer Credits (with cliffhanger music continuing into the Producer Credits) -> Next Time Promo (Australia Only) -> Main Closing Credits (Australia Only Jan-Jun 2000)

Jan 2004, and on International versions of the programme still was/is

Cliffhanger -> Next Time Promo (Australia Only) -> Closing Credits

From Feb 2004 in Australia is

Cliffhanger -> Next Time Promo in an ECP with the credits rolling on the right hand side (used for all primetime shows on 7 & afflifitates)

Yeh in UK it was:

Cliffhanger -> Producer Credits (with cliffhanger music continuing into the Producer Credits) -> Main Closing Credits . I remember it now It faded to Producer credits but kept the dramatic music going. That was always a good idea I thought!

True and I was being sarcastic a little but I don't think the storyline warranted a cut.

Because the bulbs lead on to next week's car-crash (In which Jade makes some sort of unbelievable last-minute escape apparently!) I'm left wondering how much editing we're getting next week.

Well I've just checked out the Five site and there's a number of errors in it such as storyline descriptions repeated on two days - and all the recaps are a day out. There's also a wierd recap on Wednesday where it's full-screen with a Flynn & Leah scene over the normal music, then the car-crash scene over spooky music. But it's all full-screen - which wasn't even done for the Olympic Cliffhanger (where the recaps were normal format with spooky music) so I wonder is it a bogus recap?

Will be interesting to see..

Ooh and Five have uploaded Monday's recap complete with a scene CUT from Friday's episode:

Jade: This place rocks on 99's!
Duncan: Everything rocks on 99's!

No, it's not a bogus recap. The Aussie version of that episode also had a non-standard 'full-screen' recap. I guess they considered it more dramatic and effective.

Last year's season finale (not season return!) featuring the mineshaft storyline also had a full-screen recap.

Just one of four cuts made to Friday's episode. I've written a summary of the missing scenes on the BTTB Message Board if anyone wants to read it:

And Five were at it again tonight, having made SEVEN cuts to H&A. No drug-taking tonight (at least not shown on air) - they cut scenes from a party (though some did show teenagers in a drunken state), and a cut to the crash scene. Details of the cuts are in the link below:

I do worry that this is going to become a habit. ITV had a terrible reputation for chopping H&A to pieces, but AFAIK Five have never done so before these last few episodes.
