Okay, so after Friday's 'shock' 2002 finale (Ailsa Stewart 'returning from the dead'), we're now finally into 2003 (with the 'new' Flynn as well).
What's with the updated titles? The pictures and writing seem way too big - in fact, the writing trails the picture so badly, that it almost appears to belong to the next picture. Anyone else think they're a definite backward step?
But we'll be getting another new set around June (introduced in Oz in August) like these, where the pictures don't scroll across they just get bigger from either side of the screen:
I must say, these Titles should be refreshed now. The original black ones with the shapes of the letters were much better.
These ones looked good when they were first introduced for 2000 and they reminded me a little of Knots Landing.
I hope they are revamped for 2004, but we will have to wiat until next September now won't we.?.
The gap filled in until ITV1 stopped showing it. I remember when we used to be eighteen months behind Australia in Neighbours and then just under a year behind in Home and Away. Just when we were catching up with them, ITV1 sstopped showing it.
I think it is better when we are more in line with Australia, it seems fresher and the storylines aren't a year behind.
Presumably when Channel 5 started showing H&A we were at the very minimum 12 months behind Oz. If we've now entered the 2003 season then that means we're now only 10 months behind. That's 2 months in as many years?! Crikey.
The most dissapointing thing about the new openers is that you no longer get a sliding clip of the vocalists singing the theme. That was marvellously tacky!!
Also has anyone noticed that the Bodyform sponsor credits have vanished?

Well, don't forget that in Oz, both Neighbours and Home & Away take a 6 week to 2 month (not sure of the exact length) break over Christmas - although the eps showing on five at the mo will have (of course) been filmed before the end of 2002.

All the background pics have disappeared - and yes, it was tacky, but not overly so.

They vanished a month or two ago - although I admit it was the middl of the week they went before I noticed.

is she back permanently?
Just temporary - they're not doing a Dallas and actually bringing her back to life.
If you want spoilers, the best place to find out what's coming up in the next 9/10 months is to read Sally's Diary - this is the Austrlian version, not the five version.
Looks like we're going through another period of reasonably major character upheaval and comings & goings.

I knew that on Five we are about a year and a half behind, but I thought that we were only about 6-8 Weeks behind Austraila with Neighbours. But when H & A was on ITV they had to stop showing it for about 8 or 10 weeks in 1999 because we were almost going to take over the Aussies.
I didn't know Neighbours and Home And Away were off air over Christmas in Austrailia, I'd thought they'd be all year round, but over here I think the BBC doesn't show about 5 weeks worth of Neighbours a year, if you coun't Christmas/ New Year, Wimbledon and Bank Holidays.

It tends to stay fairly consistent as regards Neighbours (when I was in Oz a couple of years ago, I saw an episode that I then saw about 2 months later over here).

Wasn't the main way they slowed down by only showing H&A Mon-Thurs?

ITV had a few different tactics to stop us catching up with Oz, mainly dropping episodes on Bank Holidays, taking a break over Christmas/New Year, and as mentioned above - showing it four times a week for a while. At the moment on Five we are about nine months behind Oz.
The change in titles for 2003 is because Channel Seven started broadcasting H&A in High Definition Digital, so the titles had to be re-done. Plus there was a couple of new characters that had to be added in. I don't think you'll see a change of titles for 2004 seeing they were re-done. Probably in 2005 though I'd expect to see something new.

It's been a standard policy in Australian television to pull all soaps over christmas and new year which goes back as long as I can remember.
