Actually quite a bit of truth to that. And not only have they lost the call to arms, they're having to make the equivalent of around 10 episodes extra a year to fill the time once taken by the titles.
It went down hill when they got rid of the opening theme

I haven't watched Home and Away since it left ITV but I was a very long-term viewer of Neighbours. Eventually by early 2017 I was becoming tired of it and I thought I'd have a break. Turns out I never went back. I saw a trailer for it recently and it looks like a completely unrecognisible show now. Maybe both soaps have just run their course?
If you want classic Aussie soaps, I would go for Prisoner Cell Block H or The Sullivans any day. They were fab!

Channel 5 has life rights to H&A, as long as it’s still being made by Seven, it’ll air in the U.K.
The original Neighbours deal on Channel 5 was £300m over 10 years but I think they are paying a lot less for it now. I would say Neighbours is more valuable for the channel it gets just over 1m in the 1345 slot alone when you include consolidated figures. I wouldn’t be shocked if they beat ITV when it’s own.
The Channel 5 deals give both soaps long term funding. Indeed, ITV offered double the money to keep Home and Away, but Channel 5 committed to it for far longer.
I think H&A has had far more care and attention on Channel 5 than it ever had on ITV.

Part of that is now filled by recaps at the start of each episode, which they never originally had.
Nothing can ever beat the original theme:

One of my earliest H&A memories, literally scared my 3 year old self to death at the time

RTÉ have the rights to H&A in Ireland. If this show was scrapped altogether by Seven; RTÉ would have to tweak their schedules on both RTÉ One & RTÉ2 during each day of the weekdays & probably during the weekends. On RTÉ One; they have the show after the RTÉ One O'Clock News & Weather. On RTÉ2; it's shown after a double bill of The Simpsons which starts at 5pm & ends at 6pm. Neighbours comes up first at 6pm. H&A comes up at 6:30pm. I don't know what the viewership is like now with Neighbours and H&A on RTÉ.
I would assume that the TAM Ireland viewership figures per episode are published on the RTÉ website?

I'm sure they've had them as long as I can remember, though initially after the titles.
Anyway over on MediaSpy (our Aussie equivalent) this news being taken as seriously as when BM11 reports the demise of the BBC.

To be fair I haven't watched Neighbours for years, I think it moving to five as it was then I just lost interest. I do think someone had their had screwed on though giving it a revamp a few years ago and bringing back the old logo and a better version of the theme.
Wasn't Sons and Daughters a Aussie soap? I remember that being on itv in the afternoon if I was off school

The song doesn't really seem quite right in my memory without it being faded down, the end credits flipping into the screen by 45 degrees and Andrew Gardner intoning: "On Thames News at six..."

The Sullivans! A programme made 40 years ago which depicted life 30 years before that....
Strange to think what a massive cult following Prisoner had, too. Hasn't realised it had been scrapped as long ago as 1986.

To be fair, it wasn't shown in the UK until several years after Australia. Most regions didn't even start showing it until after it had ended in Australia!
