Maybe they'll take a break at the 2007 finale and wait for the Neighbours rights to come into play -as such have the 2008 openers on the same day to boost raitings

Don't forget the Olympic break, in 2000 and 2008 Australie took two weeks off during that time.

You can guarantee that Home and Away will be off on all Bank Holidays during 2008, I find it strange that they have to be at leats six weeks behind Australia.

Why not agree two weeks or something like that.?.

I would still prefer to be head to head and take six weeks off at Christmas.

I wish they would do that with all the Soaps here too.

I think Seven have lost the rights to the Olympics though.

I don't think the Aussie soaps don't break now for as long as they used to over Christmas - have they come to an end yet this year?

Home and Away finished for their Christmas break in November
Neighbours finished for Christmas break yesterday and returns on the 14th January in Aus.

Neighbours doesnt as it takes 3 or 4 weeks off but Home and Away still has a long break of 6 weeks.

Home and Away seems to be turning into a hospital drama - not just with accidents every other week, but an increasing number of characters based there.

No that's for the 2010 Winter Olympics & the 2012 London Olympic Games (to Channel Nine [free-to-air] & Fox Sports [pay-tv]) - Seven still has the rights to the 2008 Olympics.

I'm pretty sure they're starting later this year because of their Australian Open coverage (which has been, and will be a fixture for the next 5 or so years).

Because a lot of matches run overtime during the day, they have to put back their 6pm news which in turn throws off everything else after that. Instead of having a one-and-a-half hour break between 6pm and 7.30, they're dumping H&A to cut it down to an hour (in time to sure some of the bigger matches later in the evening).

Or something like that.

Tim, this year Home and Away is not starting until end of January/February - although Seven still have that 1/2 break this year from 6pm - 7:30pm (Seven News, Today Tonight & That 70's Show) & the night sessions don't start until 7:45pm anyway.
