Of course, you are right pad. How silly of me. It's obviously a new shot of her.

I feel a right plank now! Shocked

No - that's a new shot of Jacqui McQueen. A new shot also of Zoe, with an extended shot of Louise (which may have been in the original set, but the Louise/Warren sequence still looks dodgy).

Surprised they didn't put Danny and (not) Sasha in - though I doubt their mum will ever return, I assume these two will be in it for the foreseeable future anyhow, and considering they put Katy in the titles pretty quickly, I did think they'd stick these two in to replace Craig and Claire this week.

Doesn't look like they'll be a major influx of students this year - think they'll stick with the current crop plus the locals who out of all the Universities in the country choose HCC!

P.S. What's Sasha's step-sister called?

Yes I can see that's Jacqui now. The other woman (Jacqueline Leonard) is NOT Sasha's mum - that is the now-deceased Diane.

Of course. I couldn't remember Danny's sister's name so I did a quick look at the cast list on www.hollyoaks.com and picked the wrong Valentine. I should've said Lauren. Rolling Eyes

This year's new intake seem to be creeping in in dribs and drabs - but what do you think of the ones so far?

Danny and Lauren - liking Danny, though we've seen nothing really of Lauren left

Summer and Beth - new students who hopefully like last year's intake will be given the chance and not axed at the first opportunity - though initially both have quite annoying voices. Beth seems the more interesting of the two, while Summer could potentially be the new posh kid.

We've also had the return of Ste, while there are a couple more new characters on the way including a lecherous careers advisor (at the school) and a new Irish student who will become John Paul's potential latest love interest.

Irish? I thought he was a Brummie.

From the DS forums:

Irish Actor Joins Hollyoaks

A new Irish actor is set to join the cast of 'Hollyoaks'. Aaron Smullen will play the role of Irish student Jamie Wright and rumors are a rife that Smullen could be playing the new love interest for John-Paul McQueen, played by James Sutton.

A source said: "Aaron is a big big character anyway so 'Hollyoaks' bosses are hoping he will bring a lot of that to the character of Jamie Wright. Jamie Wright is a confident big boy who is hiding a massive secret. He will give Clare (Gemma Bissix) a run for her money and is sure to put Kris (Gerard McCarthy) in his place."

'Hollyoaks' is Smullen's first major TV role and was spotted by producers at a minor play in Dublin.

Smullen met his fellow cast members for the first time last night at the Inside Soap Awards but left early due to stomach bug.

When asked about Smullen's joining the soap, 'Hollyoaks' declined to comment.

Though that last line does have the vibe of "we've made the story up!".

What was the Brummie bloke in it the other night called then? It did appear to me that it was a one-off part though - they didn't seem to be setting the character up or anything.

Apparently that guy the other night was just a plot device to get JP to move out, nothing more.

Hollyoaks continuing to do it's stuff quietly but surely - yet still Katy avoids death!

Couple of spoilers from DS:

Not surprised Jess is going - thought after this week it would be sooner or later. She certainly doesn't fill the role of villian very well.

Link 2

Looks like they're going to nick Home and Away's trick to enable them to bring in a succession of young characters without worrying about attaching them to families.

Also, the pool makes a return to the show next week - but it looks like a different one from the preview shots, so have they got rid of the old Brookside/Hollyoaks/Grange Hill pool now then?

The swimming pool in Grange Hill was not the same as seen in Hollyoaks - it was much smaller, but hasn't been seen now since 2005.

In response to Link 2, it seems further evidence of how Bryan Kirkwood is ruining the show. In his quest for Hollyoaks to be a UK version of The OC they're bringing in all these expendable characters and not making them memorable in any way. A quick look on Wikipedia shows most current Hollyoaks cast to have only been in the show for two years, three at the most, aside from the token long-termers like Tony, Max and Steph. The ratings may well be justifying Kirkwood's changes, but he's catering for a fickle audience which gets bored easily.
