Hollyoaks has come out as the worst offender when it comes to the use of alcohol in soaps, with 18% of scenes featuring alcohol, ahead of 17% for Corrie, 16% for EastEnders and Emmerdale and just 6.7% in Home and Away.

The survey covers an unspecified two-week period - but although it's only marginally in the lead, I'm quite surprised Hollyoaks is on top.

Really? Im not. The students are always getting drunk! Smile

Voting now open for the Bristish Soap Awards 2007

I actually voted for Hollyoaks in 2 categories. Corrie is my favourite and always will be, but I think Claire deserves to win Villan of the Year, and James Sutton who plays John Paul McQueen Best Actor so they got my vote.

I wouldn't say Hollyoaks was any worse than the other UK soaps. It all depends which 2 weeks they picked to do the survey. The percentage differences seem quite small between the soaps (apart from those surfer-dudes in H&A - and we all know how little the Aussies drink Rolling Eyes )

Well, they have about as much credibility as a US presidential election, but I've given Hollyoaks the clean sweep in the votes this year.

Usually I favour Corrie in a tactical vote against EastEnders, but Hollyoaks is the only soap I'm still watching regularly now and it's had one of it's best years in it's history.

I thought you might. However Corrie is still my favourite and ive voted for them in 4, for all the good it will do.

I've split my votes between the two, although I've given Hollyoaks my vote for Best Soap because it has been far and away, for me, the best soap this past year. EastEnders got nothing from me. Laughing

I see what you lot meant with the music. I only remember the music after that. Still all good though.

Nice find.

I guess these new titles are also the first not to feature that bridge too - which formed the central scene in the next incarnation and also featured briefly in the last titles too.

That theme music was the best Hollyoaks theme music ever! I guess those titles were from about 1997-1999.

Gnargh! That new title sequence is awful! They only had the last ones about a year haven't they? If not less! And the logo looks like some sex education documentary!

I thought I was the only one who hated the new titles! The previous set was on for about 18 months or so I think?

Watching that old clip, I think it from early 1998 rather than 1999 as Cindy mentions she wants nothing to do with baby Holly and it was Christmas 1997 that Holly was born (same day that Dawn died). How I miss the old Hollyoaks characters.
