I'm not sure that the titles fit for what Hollyoaks has become over the past year. Bryan Kirkwood certainly changed Hollyoaks into a more "respectable" soap/drama with some very good storylines. Just as the content was going good, the new music/titles seem to have kicked it in the teeth.

Like someone said over on the C4 forums, its like they want it to be prime time Grange Hill.

I do think that's a fair point and something that has been mentioned on a couple of other forums. Bryan said in an interview last year that he wanted to make the soap credible again and to be a strong contender against 'the big two' and in my personal opinion he really has achieved what he set out to do. Yet the opening titles don't really seem like the opening titles of a credible, dramatic programme which wants to be a strong contender for the big awards.

And somebody said this about the logo -

The font's rubbish and the male/female symbol thing just suggests that Hollyoaks is all about sex and nothing substantial, which was the image they said they were trying to break away from. 'Look, we have boys! And girls! In ONE SOAP- TOGETHER!' Hardly groundbreaking, is it?

Kind of agree with them. I like the titles, but do they don't really tie in with the direction they've been trying to steer the show towards this past year.

On the contrary I think once you get over the initial shock of the change Hollyoaks have finally got the opening they deserve - a bit risky, a bit funky and a bit sexy and glamourous!

Although always different to the other soaps, the previous title sequences have all been pretty safe and they've never taken any major risks with the theme before - even toning down the last version from it's original incarnation on Movin' On.

Hollyoaks is supposed to stand out as different to all the other soaps and with this look it certainly does!

Kind of agree on the logo though - only bit I'm still not sure on though it is slowly growing on me (well, becoming less iritating!). When you think about it though, virtually all the major storylines anyway ultimately boil down to being about sex!

Re: break stings - they seemed to have stopped at five so far, though there are slight variations depending on if they're used before or after the break.

So far we've had:
Arrow The Valentines
Arrow Claire + Louise
Arrow John Paul + McQueen sisters (minus Mercedes)
Arrow The Students
Arrow Hannah, Nancy, Sarah, Amy and Gilly - not quite sure why Gilly is with them.

I haven't got a problem with the new titles.

But talking of new titles, THESE ones from Home and Away I stumbled across.... who told this guy he could sing?

LOL his voice is really awful. I quite like the Home and Away titles though, miles better than the new Hollyoaks ones.

The titles though are a bit like the HP ads from last year

How come we never get to see the title sequence anymore on Five?

Agreed, but didn't H&A have a similar sequence using picture frames in about 2005 before the HP ads came out? (not that I think HP would copy something from an Oz soap)

I think Seven have took them out, to do with time. I think we are in November now, so the last week leading up to the finale has the openint titles on. I know for sure that the finale itself does.

Steering back on topic, one thing that is noticable with these titles is the ending could pretty much be used on it's own Home and Away style so if for some reason they didn't want to use the opening, they could just use the short sting at the end of the titles.

Then again, I suppose they could have done that with the last titles too as the end of them was basically the same as the break sting.

They only seem to show the titles like once a fortnight! A shame really as I love the Home and Away titles. I had hoped the new season would mean the titles would come back regularly but word from Oz says they are just as infrequent as before!

We only have another 4 weeks left of the 2006 season now - 2007 season starts on 30th March on Five Life.

God, this Jonny storyline goes on that long! I was beginning to hope it reach it's climax in the next couple of weeks!

No I think it has recently come to an end in Oz.
