Hope they completely replace them - I dont like the current ones. The original titles were probabaly the best, followed by the set that ran from 1999-2001.

They should follow Home and Away's example and update them several times during the year (when Home and Away actually bother to show them that is)

It goes without saying they should be updated whenever characters leave.

Actually, talking of Home and Away I think Hollyoaks could get away with a brief opening sequence (perhaps including a recap) considering the way each show opens with it's own sequence to see up the episode.

Good - but give it a couple of months and it'll probably be out of date again.

I wonder whether they'll just update the current titles or completly replace them.

Hopefully they go for the latter - these have never seemed quite right IMO. Also time the theme tune was revamped too.

Full article now up:

Teen soap Hollyoaks will shortly be launching a new title sequence.

The new creative, to highlight the young, glamourous and sexy image of the show, will be going out on C4 on Monday February 26 at 6.30pm.

In-house graphic designer Simon Cox worked on the visuals with composer Steve Wright giving the show's recognisable theme tune a bit of a revamp.

Bosses of the hit C4 soap then challenged students at the Liverpool Intitute of Performing Arts to add a contemporary twist to the tune with winning student Mark Beaney coming up with a 30-second jingle.

Already attracting nearly four million viewers per episode the show’s new image looks set to secure even more success.

Producer Bryan Kirkwood said: “I’m delighted with our new titles; they reflect the show perfectly and will appeal directly to our viewers. We’ve got the best-looking cast on TV and now our titles echo that – young, glamorous and sexy!”

Sounds promising - so it looks like we'll get our wish (well, my wish) of a revamped theme tune and the cast will still be a part of them - perhaps even in specially filmed scenes for the titles.

Just hope though that "young, glamorous and sexy" comes across as just that - and not "tacky".

Another good episode tonight - I like tough Becca! Not quite sure how Justin got his visiting order though!

The Hannah storyline beginning to develop too Wink

I hope these new titles are easily changeable, and that means ACTUALLY easily changeable, unlike the current titles, which they said were but were never again changed.

I'd also like to see a more subdued font for the writer and director credits, its a bit big and fat and in your face at the moment. In regard to the theme music being updated, amen!

Let's hope the new titles improve as much as the show's quality has of late!

Agree about the writers/directors credit. I also think they should be left off the opening montage and instead playout over the first actual scene - though to their credit usually if they do something special for the opening scenes they do normally do that.

I hope the logo remains - although it's been used on the endcap probably since launch, those were the first titles to use the official logo with the tree in the middle. However, the website is now increasingly using a logo and font similar to how it looked on "Hollyoaks: In the City", so maybe it's all change.

P.S. Anyone seen any promotion of the Justin/Becca storyline this week. Last week's John Paul storyline was quite heavily trailed - with ads for both C4 and E4, so I'd have expected them to do the same for this week's events.

I think though with the new look coming they need a big promo campaign to go with it. Hollyoaks is doing the business in the ratings and has been getting quite a bit of praise lately, so it deserves some backing.

The ad on the Channel4Sales.com site to promote the show is fantastic - just a shame it's never made it's way on to the TV screens.

What logo would this be? The strange stamp-like one, in a rectangular box?

I take it you're talking about the 'rub some Hollyoaks on it' ad, in which case I must say I am totally shocked as I watch Channel 4 nowhere near as much as you Brekkie Boy but I remember seeing it once or twice! Laughing

Well yes - the "H O L L Y O A K S" bit from it at least. Just take a look at hollyoaks.com and the ads around it for various Hollyoaks related products and you'll see what I mean.

Still not entirely sure what you mean - my machine only has things like HOLLYOAKS CLOTHING but in a very basic font, a little like Arial Narrow.

According to people on DS, there are some pictures in the new Inside Soap, but:

"i think they look stupid, some sort of futuristic crap where everyone's dancing or something... not looking good in my opinion! it sort of riminds me of soapstar superstar titles"

"in the pictures it shows jessica, darren, two of louise, sarah i think, kris. calvin and max, hopefully they'll include everyone tho ... it sort of looks like a pop video! then a close up of an eye saying hollyoaks in it"

"The picture in inside soap looks like Big Brother or some other reality show. It even says it looks like a pop video!"

Can someone buy the mag and scan?

Well I couldn't wait. Scanned:

Interesting - the eye was actually used in the In the City titles and they were pretty good. Have to see them in action first.

The logo in the eye does look more like the familar logo, but in the pic with Kris it is in the skinnier font I'm on about. Look at the Hollyoaks homepage and at things like the "Hollyoaks Backstage/Preview" ads - that's the type of font I'm on about.

Also that possibly quashes the rumours the Valentines have been axed - though of course they could leave next week and Calvin remain in the titles for the next two years!

Anyhow, the new titles will debut with the culmination of a long running storyline. Let's just say the titles won't be the only new arrival on screen that day!
