I agree, especially when Darren came out of prison and tried to borrow money off Warren, then in another part was mugged and no one believed him. Not only did I feel insulted a this predicable storyline I was upset when I lost several hours of my life for good.
At least the latest threesome with Nancy, Ravi and Chris was something new.
It was very annoying when Darren came back out they went straight back into him trying to get the Dog back. The character needs to evolve and move on - he's actually one of the better characters on the show, but it's no good having strong characters if they're not getting strong storylines and the characters aren't developing over time.
I personally think the character of Kris has outlived his " usefulness " as far as the stories go, and they could do with getting rid of Zak and Malachy.
As has been stated previously it's difficult to feel empathy towards Malachy ( and will be ) even with the HIV storyline, as he hasn't been established as a strong character.
It was too much too soon for Malachy, but I think he's one of the better characters myself. Kris's time is up though, and possibly Nancy too. As for Zak - yes, he's been there for ages, but it's only in the last couple of months that he's had any storylines of his own. I don't really see what they could do with him once his student days are over though.
Gilly is another character who never seems to have his own storylines, and as a character hasn't really developed over the years.
Gemma Bissex is returning as Clare Devine. Can't say I'm too thrilled with this storyline for Warren and Justin's exit - the prospect of Louise making a come back is much more interesting.
It's going through a difficult period now, but I think with quite a few characters leaving it really provides the opportunity to bring in some new blood.
The new characters coming through, who are presumably amongst the first of those bought in by the new Executive Producer, look promising too. I really think Danny (Ste's mates' mate) and his girlfriend Abi could become quite interesting characters if given the chance. I'm guessing too Gaz will be sticking around as he's now got a surname on the credits. Tonight's final scenes on E4 really were quite uncomfortable, although it is all a bit racism by numbers - and isn't as strong as the Macki storyline from a few years back.
IMO Russ is starting to resemble Chandler from Friends in his recent mannerisms.
Can we also get rid of the Roy family, but keeping Ravi.
I know I've voiced my dismay at recent characters and plotlines in Hollyoaks, but all credit to the characterisation of Ste. At least there's on character who started " small " and successfully transferred to the show.
IMO I also think there's a danger that the McQueens are just becoming too much of a non ironic joke in the programme now.
PS have I missed where Zoe's meant to be at present?
