Fantastic? Not...laughably lacking in subtlety?
Oh wait, it's Hollyoaks, where Issues are dished out in hideously isolated chunks of committee written banality.
If you've been affected by any of the issues in this post...
I like how the McQueen's have been picked off over five episodes rather than in one move - and tonight's show was good, but only a prequel to what's to come - which as E4 announcer bloke says, really will be a blimey! A shame though the Niall storyline is coming to a head, but thank god Jack's "death" will be exposed next week.
Moving on and some new (and recycled) blood arriving on screens too. Firstly, the previously mentioned Roy family - Ravi and Leila's brother and sister and parents.
Secondly, Spike is set to return to the show, initially for a few episodes but they seem to be looking at him returning more long term.
Zoe's brother is also set to join the cast, but most interestingly IMO is the introduction of Warrens foster brother, who arrives in the village following the death of his parents (Warren's foster parents) and has a mental age of around 10. That should bring out an interesting side to Warren.
Hollyoaks did very well for E4 last night - 1.3m (1.4m in total when +1 is accounted for). It was E4's most watched show of the year so far and managed to beat BBC Two, Five and Channel 4 in that slot.
... or at least that's the impression we get. And if true, so glad it remained a secret.
You'd think E4 should beat last night's ratings tonight too, and possibly tomorrow. Broadcast report they've only dropped below 500,000 for the E4 screening twice all year, with the lowest being 375,000 in August. It's also broken the 1m mark six times this year.
Bryan Kirkwood has quit after three years as Executive Producer. A real loss IMO - he's made more of a mark in the last three years than the show had in the decade previously, but at least he leaves it in better shape than he got it in.
Deputy producer (and producer of the forthcoming late night episodes on E4) Lucy Allen will replace him.
1.5m last night on E4 - can only see that rising tonight.
A good episode of course, especially liked the stuff with Niall and Myra - but though ten times better than anything the other soaps could serve up, I did feel it was lacking something (a couple more deaths probably) - and wasn't as good as the explosion at the Dog a couple of years back.
And how come Tony always seems to get caught up in these things, but never killed. A bit unbelievable too that they took him out first over the unconscious Tina.
