The high throughput rate is one of the problems with Hollyoaks (Neighbours as well). This is to be expected with the college students, but away from HCC efforts should be made to establish more long-term characters.

It's one of it's advantages too!

Alot of the long term characters now are pretty much redundant. Tony has been around far too long really (though is now a better character than he was) while most of the Osbournes/Deans could be lost - all except Frankie, Jake and Jack.

The cast has changed significantly over the last year - but it's been done quite gradually and in many ways kind of gone unnoticed!

The Hollyoaks cast does seem to have a very high turnover - with only Tony, Jack, Max and OB having been in it for longer than 5 years out of the current cast.

One person I really miss is Sarah Dunn as Mandy who was in it for 10 years.

Sarah Dunn was great but there wasn't really anywhere left to go with her character, poor Mandy had been put through so much and I don't think the viewers really just want to see her and Tony happy in the background, I think it was the right time for her to go - although wish they'd done it differently, she had already lost so many loved ones.

It would have been nice if Mandy had have had a happy ending. Having already lost her mum, stepfather and brother they went and killed her baby off as well.

Never liked Tony with Mandy either, it never really rang true. I always expected Mandy and Luke to get back together.

It was too much having her child die too - but that was one of the best storylines of the year, and probably the best episode this year too!

how come becca's suddenly got a huge baby bump? she hasn't been showing for weeks and now it's enormous! how far along is she supposed to be anyway? i'm quite liking the new family the valentines. Smile

Liking the Valentines too - quite liked the mother actually!

Anyhow, looks like they are getting around the usual problem of having the "oldies" only appear a few times a year by simply killing them off!

Mrs Owen made a brief reapperance earlier this week for the first time since Sam was sent down.

It's a real shame we've seen nothing of them since that as it should have been a major storyline.

Hasnt that always been the case with the older chracters in Hollyoaks taking a back seat. Im sure in the early days Kurt and Lucy's parents werent seen that often.

I was reading a summer preview for Hollyoaks in one of the soap mags and it says that between 7-10 characters will be killed off in this explosion. Do we know when this explosion will happen, and who do we think will be killed off?

We will as usual be getting some new characters come September, so that is why this cull is taking place.

I doubt we'll ever get it - it's been rumoured for the last couple of years and never happened. We've lost quite a few characters one by one instead I think!

A point I've spotted on Digital Spy - as you may know the T4 Hollyoaks omnibus is signed on all platforms, including analogue - but apparantly the simulcast on the C4 broadband service is unsigned!

Well it was in a soap magazine and they are usually accurate!
