LOL - I agree though, and I don't have Virgin or a HDTV!
I wonder then if they'll be available in HD via the on-demand service.

Are there any plans for Hollyoaks to start filming in HD?

tsk at virgin for not having 4HD. I mean I don't have an HDTV myself but that's not the point.

That is entirely up to the team working on the show.
Shooting in HD doesn't force you to change the way you light, the way you rack/grade, the format you shoot in (50i/25p) - though many productions do use the point at which they switch from SD to HD as a way of changing their "look" and the way they shoot. (Some shows have moved from multi-camera live-cut SD to single-camera HD for example)

I take it the sets will suddenly end up being darker once they're in HD like they have done in Neighbours?

Yep - Hollyoaks is (or has traditionally been) single camera, and has been given a 25p "film effect" for a while (if not since launch - can't remember) - though I think the studio stuff is now shot direct to disc rather than just to a camcorder tape. Think location stuff is still shot traditionally (i.e. to tape or other recorded media)

I think Hollyoaks has generally been shot with single cameras anyway - or it used to be at least.

Agreed, a great episode.
It's going to be awful when Myra finds out about JP/Keiron...
Can someone also fill me in - does Niall know John Paul's his brother and Mercedes is his sister? He does, right, but no one else knows who he is?
Also has anyone else picked up a sort of provocativeness between him and Keiron? He seems to be almost interested in the idea of him whilst really cut up by Steph too. But if he is, and if anything happens, it'll be some evil ploy to ruin him and JP, probably not for anything else.

Yes, Niall knows they are his brother/sisters.
This storyline is set to run for most of the year...

Firstly, has the show been in true HD then this week? As I watch on E4 I've seen no mention of it.
Secondly, E4 will air a week of late-night spin-offs later in the year, with five hour-long episodes airing in November.
Craig Dean returns, with a dramatic cliff top rescue of his sister (presumably Steph, not Debbie), while there's a trip to Belfast and an unlikely marriage.
