From today's tabloids...

THE BBC's Holiday Programme is to be axed after 37 years.

Bosses dropped the flagship travel show as part of a major shake-up of its TV schedules.

The show which brought sun-kissed holiday destinations to millions is replaced with a daily magazine programme The One Show.

Robert L-B took over it has been absolute rubbish. If anything Holiday should have grown with the times and evolved into somthing that mixes Departure Lounge (now that was better than this summer offering - although still had the same presentation crew), Holiday and the old fantastic travelogue shows that used to be on DEFII (Rough Guides)!!

I think The One Show will be a flop.

BBC1 have had other shows going against Emmerdale that were distinctive AND got an audience like Trawlermen and Celebrity Masterchef. BBC1 are putting a poorly conceived vehicle out 5 days a week with two presenters that have no chemistry and one of them (Nadia Sawalha), lacking in journalistic pedigree.

Okay Holiday wasn't the show it was but it did provide some variety, now we're stuck with a crap 5 day a week soap on ITV and a crap 5 day a week magazine show on BBC1.

How utterly depressing!

They should put it back in its traditional slot of sunday teatime

Can't say that i'll miss it.

From what little of it that I have seen over the recent past, it just seems to be an opportunity for d list celebrities to get a free holiday..

Oh for the days of Cliff MIchelmore, John Carter and Anne Greg lol

Sunday evening would work much better for the Holiday Show IMO. How could they ditch it? It's a classic, just like TOTP (but that deserved to be ditched I guess thanks to music channels and online music) but you can't exactly get the same experience from looking for holidays online can you? There was something fun and exciting about Holiday; something a trashy, tabloidy, gossipy and cheap magazine program cannot replace and it's an insult for it to replace such a classic and original program.

I take it the other distinctive 7pm regulars like Watchdog / Question of Sport / Big Cat Weeks / Masterchef / Supervets (I'm not including Open All Hours) etc. will find alternative homes in the schedule or are they to be axed too ?

I wouldn't be surprised. I did read an article a few weeks back that was quite revealing about the sorts of people who dominate the BBC...
