Casualty 1906 is nothing to do with Holby

Wasn't that set in the London Hospital, Whitechapel supposedly or have I got the wrong programme Confused

Ah, you're probably right. Though the use of the "Casualty" name is surely intended to imply a link, even if it's a tenuous one.

Well they had to get some way of getting people to watch it Wink , putting the Casualty name on it would make alot of the Casualty/Holby name on it would ensure viewing figures were high, even if for the first couple of minutes or so

why do the programmes have to be called sexy?

Could say the same thing about ITV with Heartbeat and The Royal (which is also getting a spinoff), however at least ITV dont run them both at the same time - we will have Casualty, Holby City and Holby Blue all on air for the next few months.

Holby Blue is only on for 8 episodes but I wouldnt be surprised if it eventually becomes an all year series as Holby started off with about 9-10 episodes in its first series, then went up to about 20, then 30 and eventually 50. Casualty is also on far too often, I preferred it when it was on for 6 months from Sept-March and then it had a break. Now we barely get any breaks at all.

Completly agree - and if Holby Blue does get a significant extended run, it's killing off other potential drama as it's likely the Thursday 8pm slot will go to make way for it - though Waterloo Road has had an extended recommission.

I don't watch any of this Holby stuff and I do feel it's not the way the BBC should be commissioning drama.

However, considering they have commissioned this, and have significantly increase their primetime drama output in the last couple of years, it's about time they took the bold step of putting EastEnders down before it's slow and lingering death gets any crueller.

After all, with all these Holby spin-offs they're going to need a few more ex-EastEnders to make up the cast.

I read on teletext that depending on how well ratings are for Holby Blue, they could be filming the second series shortly.

I have to that going by the information released, Holby Blue looks quite good. I prefer Police dramas to medical ones, which is why I watch The Bill more often than Holby City, which I hardly watch anymore.

My belief is that the Holby name should be restricted to the hospital. This seems dreadfully formulaic, a dumping ground for ex-EastEnders or Footballers' Wives, the amount of sex promised for episode 1 is enough to put me off in itself, and if it's going to have no association with the other two Holby programmes, then you have to ask what's the bloody point?

It's Eldorado syndrome again - the BBC are still reeling from that unmitigated disaster so instead of being brave enough to launch a soap proper they turn their two biggest dramas into "almost soaps" and expand the Holby name into a franchise. And as has already been pointed out, if this is commissioned for a year-long run then BBC1 risks heading for the same soap overload as ITV1.

Talking of ITV1, notice how they've scheduled the new series of Midsomer Murders against Holby Blue in the Tuesday night slot - when usually it would play in the Sunday night slot, or perhaps Friday. Also an extended Emmerdale on Tuesday IIRC leading into it.

I just don't do police/detective dramas really - they're so formulaic and Holby Blue looks no different to me than the MerseyBeat and City Central before it.

I do like that blend however. It's like when Ventress from Heartbeat turned up in The Royal.

If I remember correctly, he also guest starred in the first ever Holby City episode also - so it's nothing new! Laughing
