Ok, I got Tinra too yesterday. It worked a treat.
I put it in directory C:Tinra.
Next thing I did was copy 'BBC News 24 90 Second Countdown.ram' into the same folder.
I renamed the file 'BBCN24.rm'.
When I did a warning said 'The file may become unstable'. I clicked ok anyway.
Then, I opened 'MS-Dos Prompt' from the start menu - typed 'CD Tinra' to change into that directory, then typed
'Tinra file:BBCN24.rm BBCN24.avi'.
Do it exactly like that - substituting you file name. Cant imagine why it didnt work for you. Good luck.

What version of Windows have you got (Gavin Scott)?

Windows 98 (think its probably 2nd Edition). Its a brand new (work) PC and its pretty fast - be aware of Asa's warning - the 90 second file took up 38MB of disk space! The benefit of course is the ability to grab frames and edit the avi's if you have the necessary software. I have asked so many people if such a utility exists in the past. So typical of TV Home to have the right info.

Bail - I keep reading you writing 'How do I rename a file?' I havent used Windows ME, but one presumes you can go into Explorer, RIGHT-CLICK on your file name and select the option 'RENAME'. Just type in whatever the h*ll
you want. I hope to goodness this works for you as your posts are becoming increasingly hysterical!
Look forward to your post saying 'All is well'!

I'll write as full a tutorial as possible shortly.
Regarding renaming, it really isn't required.
Right-click on the Real Media file you want changing to AVI and select 'Properties'. Look for the 'MS-DOS Name' and note the extension. It's either going to be .rm .ram or .ra
Then follow the steps Gavin mentioned above substituting your filename and the file extension for the examples given.
The #1 reason I didn't work for me at the start was because I didn't include the word 'file:' in the command line.
(You could always exit into DOS mode rather than just loading up DOS in a Windows window. That way, you know Windows won't interfere with it.)
Really hope this helps!
Cheers,
Asa
