Hey there, I'm new to the forum and for my FINAL major project for university (final year) in Graphic Design, I have chosen to create a brand new TV channel (or material for it, anyway). I'm really excited to do this, but I have one thing sort of plageuing over me.

Basically, my portfolio could really do with a bit more editorial in it. So, do you guys know what booklets, magazines etc TV channels may create? Either internally for staff or externally for the public. I don't want it to be an Annual Report or a brand booklet, I want it to be something which TV CHANNELS do.

I'll be creating the full brand, perhaps some idents and advertising so I'll have things to work from. Any ideas are HUGELY appreciated, thankyou!

The BBC have an in-house weekly newspaper called Ariel that covers issues that impact on BBC staff and the corporation, includes a letters page, internal job ads and small ads from both staff and 3rd parties. There is a different publication for retired staff called Prospero.

BBC News also have a monthly (I think) in-house magazine with articles written by journalists working for BBC News on stories they have covered and situations they have been in etc.

Neither of them are related to "Channel Brands" though - they are in-house publications for staff consumption, not aimed at the general public (though I believe non-staff members can subscribe to Ariel)

Hi there,

one thing channels do have is a preview booklet of a forthcoming seasons programmes. The link below should take you to the current one for BBC One. Not sure if that's the sort of thing you're after, but most channels do these for the press and so on to promote up coming highlights and the channel brand is usually quite prominent.

Thankyou both so much for your help, and thanks goldfish so much as this knowledge is a complete life saver!!! I didn't know that channels may release these, and I didn't think about the fact they might be sent to the press, so this is going to be the way forward I go. It's relevant, could be interesting to design and very believable for people viewing my work. It's a great help, thankyou!!! Smile
