I have the same problem. We have a few CCTV cameras around our house, so I nicked one of the few colour ones! I also got a small portable TV - and that's my monitor when doing news!
I do this, well I wasn't exactly excited during half term, so I build a news studio in an unused room at home. I got a (hehehe) ironing board and put closest to camera, showing the curve! It actually looks quite god, with the backdrop is some curtains which are red. I'll get bored during 6week holiday so i'll decorate that room and build a studio!
I have a VHS thing of me doing news (I use CNN.COM/TRANSCRIPTS - Take 5 - a chat show!)
Very good look, but HOW DO YOU GET IDENTS? Well, I have a television screen in background showing an active BBC NEWS logo. It loops from another VHS. It's in colour, but I wanted an ident on it. I thought i was the only one!
Nick D!
(god i'm sad!)
I run a fully featured production centre and i have three studios feeding from it......
Basically if you're idents are on a computer, you need to get a video processing card with a Video out on it, to send the idents, or stings, to a vcr that the camera goes to.
I recommend a video mixer though, cos you can get the fades much more accurate and acute.
If the idents are on VHS, then just get two vhs recorders and use them together, but link them with a scart lead...
just a thought...but can u get a vga lead that converts into a coaxel?

Er...where do you live then, in a Prison? Do you have to sign-in everytime you come in through the front door?

LOL! No, I live in Leeds. It's not because Leeds is scruffy and we get robbed (although Leeds is like that!). I just live in a house with CCTVs! A prison? No, they're not allowed on the net!
I live with my mum and dad, i'm best friends with my next door neighbour! They are interested in news BTW (thats why in conversation!)
(That's how I got Dawn French's address as my next door neighbour used to live next door to her)

Kevin is correct. You need some way of converting SVGA into PAL (or NTSC!). You can buy a black box which hooks up to the SVGA out on the back of your PC, or get a dedicated video in/out card. These tend to start at around £100 - £120. Sorry guys, SVGA & normal TV is totally incompatible - you need to convert it for it to look half decent.
However, if your camcorder has adjustable shutter speed, try pointing it at the PC monitor & play with the shutter speeds. It will still look jerky and you may see virtical interval bars running through, but if you have no budget, this is the only other way of doing it
