I've just tried to capture something using my Win TV Card, and when you start to Record, the sound is fine, but the picture jumps instead of running smoothly, and it is the same on the output file. Does anyone have any clue - as quickly as possible if you can!!

You have USB like mine dont you?

Ok this happens to me quite a lot, I solve it in a few ways.
The first is to make sure you don't use a massive picture size, i.e. don't capture the vidoe in 340x260, that will make it jerky, use the smallest size possible... it actually looks better than the bigger ones.
Then the next thing to do is press the record button before the stuff you want to capture comes up, and then stop it recording.
This means that the file will be all ready for you to record onto, without it creating a file during the bits you want to record... that will make it jerky.
Do you see what I mean by that?
Basically, choose the file name you want and then press record and then stop it again, then the file will be ready and it will not cause as much activity on the thinga you are trying to record.

The last thing is video heads.
If you don't have one, go and buy a video head cleaner, this is basically a video that you stick in the VCR and play it for a second and it cleans the whole thing out... and they do work.

Hope this is of some use.

Is it possible to capture widescreen video/images from analogue BBC, ITV, C5 etc?

As long as they are broadcasting in widescreen then yes.

They will only be 14:9 on analogue though, apart from the odd Channel 4 film which sometimes are broadcast in 16:9.

Is it because you're not capturing at the right frame rate? I formatted yesterday and when reinstalling VirtualDub it was set as 15fps, instead of 25fps.

Thanks Asa!

BTW, which version of VirtualDub do you have? I have 1.4d (build 12667/release). Could this be the reason I'm having trouble capturing in widescreen?

I don't have a TV card, so I don't know much about them, but do you have to have a TV license to have one?

Your normal TV liscence (sp?) covers a TV card and any amount of TV's you have in the house.

If you have a flat screen computer you don't need a tv license.
This is because the current crop of detectors can only pick up cathode tube screens, i.e. a curved monitor or TV, but not flatscreens!

aha!

Its states in small print on your TV Licence that you need a licence if you recive any television service, evewn if you have just a VCR and no aerial, you need one!!

Would you be able to get round this by using your PC as a TV? Although James Ison and his DX-ing aerials might be a bit of a giveaway to the nasty Licence people! Smile

Well yes, it is obviously illegal, but my point is that you can get away with it.

You need to pay a license, or are supposed to, if you can see any type of television, be it on a TV, PC or wherever (except the internet of course).
