Then use it on the scart cable.

I think you are confusing us with the Argos after sales helpline.

Strange, I spoke to an extremely helpful 'Gavin' there just the other week! Laughing

Generally, none of the STBs have RF output on them, so require a SCART cable for use. If using an old portable TV, the easiest solution is usually to connect the box to a VCR with a scart, connect the VCR to the TV by old RF lead, then watch the box via the video channel.

Yes, a loopthrough is not the same as an RF modulator which is what you need to use the STB with a non-scart TV.

Maplin sell RF modulators. They were about £30 when I bought one a few years back.

RF Loop through just means it'll reoutput the same aerial feed going in, meaning you can still use it to provide an aerial feed for analogue. It doesn't actually add anything itself onto that RF feed, so cant be used for watching the digital box on a Scartless TV. Sky boxes for example all do proper RF output as well as loop through.

I'm not actually sure if any Freeview boxes do proper RF output these days. I'm sure I heard rumours an odd one or two of the high end expensive ones used to, but never heard anything firm. It seems a bit of an untapped market to me, as there must still be heaps of Scartless sets come DSO.

Hence why I'd always suggest just getting a VCR instead. Even the most basic of those has a SCART socket and RF modulator for about the same price as places charge for the modulator alone.

The Humax F2-FOX T has proper RF output:
