It looked like ITV1 threw back to the Hell's Kitchen gallery as soon as they got the feed back, which the gallery wasn't expecting, hence them being on a shot of a cameraman wandering around and the awkward pause. Very poorly handled by ITV / Red Bee and the announcer, there was a good 5 minutes of the ITV slide, no doubt they lost the casual viewer.

Angus apologised for the technical problems, though when they initially returned you could see technical crew in the wide shot. I assume they used the wide shot during the breakdown so that the gallery or similar could see what was going on.
