Angus apologised for the technical problems, though when they initially returned you could see technical crew in the wide shot. I assume they used the wide shot during the breakdown so that the gallery or similar could see what was going on. I notice Angus (or a script writer) adding the following onto the phone-in competition rules/terms...
"Your home may be at risk if you fail to keep up with payments"

He just apologised after the highlights bit.

Its all a ploy to get us television addicts to watch it again on UTV to see how they handle it.

Its a shame the show came back. Even though I'm quite liking Hell's Kitchen, the breakdown was interesting too. We were probably just minutes away from a stand-by programme. Its not like we were missing the show either, there was no show during the break down.

Do UTV viewers get the chance to vote this evening? Maybe thats why Angus mentioned the problems in that link, maybe he has recored a special link for UTV with no mention of the phone numbers or the technical problems.

Yet another apology from the announcer! She can't stop! She said she hoped it didn't spoil the viewing! Laughing

That's what they all say at the end of a programme that's suffered problems - I've heard the Beeb do it too... must be a standard RedBee script - but then there's not a lot else you can say really!

Continuity Announcers have been saying the 'Hope it didn't spoil your viewing' for decades.

As for the ITV Announcer tonight I thought she handled it very well and more often than not I would imagine someone in Transmission Control is telling her to keep apologising for the loss of the programme - a glitch during primetime is not good for any station.

Saying that quite nice to see a breakdown to be honest with transmission technology the way it is we don't get that many nowadays!

Plus it showed the need for live continuity.

I thought the opposite, the woman doing the continuity fell over her words and made up stupid sentences that were bad English and didn't tell us anything (she probably didn't know anything about the problem to be fair to her).

On this occasion, a pre-recorded loop of music with someone saying 'Do not adjust your set' or similar every 30 seconds would have done a better job than live continuity tonight.

Don't get me wrong, speaking as a member of TVForum I find these things much more interesting when there is a live announcer on duty, but speaking as a TV viewer I couldn't care less.

Here is the complete technical problem from earlier on ITV 1 (includes all 76 apologies).

For those that couldn't be bother to sit up and wait, UTV have just started showing their edit of tonights Hell's Kitchen.

They showed the pre-titles tease and the titles and then jumped to the bit where the feed came back (although they removed the bit where you could see/hear the crew). This and the fact that there are probably less adverts at this time of night should mean that the show ends early but maybe they will just stick loads of promos in the breaks.

They didn't cut Angus Deaton's apology, so expect a lot of people in Northern Ireland saying "What technical problem?" about now.

Unfortunetly, when it came to the phone line bit, they managed to leave the numbers on screen but cover up the cost details. Doh! Icstis wouldn't be pleased.

Mind you, they did the same for Britains Favorite View an hour earlier.

EDIT: UTV are now showing a programme called 'Home' to fill the space left by the fact the breakdown wasn't included in their version of Hell's Kitchen. This extra programme is not on the EPG.

Thanks for the caps, the aspect ratio is a bit 15:9 rather than 16:9 though. As for this: http://www.dl.34sp.com/hells

All I get is black... is there a pun I'm missing? Confused

You are right about the caps. I usually notice these things but as these were graphics I didn't spot it. Will try harder next time.

http://www.dl.34sp.com/hells might take a while to download. There should be a progress bar though.
