The link below is to an article on the Guardian Media web site that suggests that BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey is being tipped to replace Peter Fincham as chief executive of Talkback Thames. If this was to happen it could lead to a new controller of the channel eventually replacing the Dancer idents.
The idents are the least of the current BBC 1's problems.
The bit of the article i found amusing was when it said her lack of experience in a commercial environment may hold her back! From what i have seen she has done a fantastic job of running BBC1 as a commercial channel

Why is it that everyone here think that the primary role of the controller of BBC1 involves the idents?
They are a very minor part of the job and not the sole responsibility of the controller
Saw her in interview on 'What this Channel 4?' Her attitude stinks, as does the attitude of the bint from E4 who was on the same programme.
She said, 'You did it your way in the old days, now let us do it our way.' Fair enough, but her way has brought BBC1 it's worst programmes in years IMO. I've barely watched BBC1 lately, Neighbours being the exception (hay, we are all allowed one bad programme arn't we?)
what does the controler do? Why don't BBC1 & 2 have the same?
BBC1 and 2 are different channels, with different styles of programming and leadership etc.
The controler does what it says on the tin - controls of channel, the main authority of the particular channel, other than the DG.
Well with the rubbish on BBC One at the moment, Channel 4 is experiencing a renaissance in TV programmmes - I rarely flick on Tuesdays and Wednesdays now. I'm hoping for similar quality on BBC One, less of the soap and commercial crap, more of the documentary and comedy. Even 'You are what you eat' and 'How Clean is your House?' are better than most BBC1 offerings of late.
I wouldn't mind some crappy but fun 1980/90s style comedy either.
