article on media guardian, in which she states one of her biggest achievements was the relaunch of BBC1 which got rid of the Hot-air balloons.

Interesting extract from an article here (from

):
Reaction to the resignation has been mixed, to say least. Several members of the TVForum (one of the industry's most resepcted websites) wished to voice their opinions.
"She'll be a hard act to follow," moaned timbus46, "After all, who will we have to moan about now? Stll, at least we'll be able to discuss new BBC1 idents (sic) which will clearly be launching the day after she leaves, so I suppose that's something."
SupperBoy added his thoughts: "She's clearly ruined the whole state of TV in this country and should be thrown to the dogs. Along with those bloody dancers."
"Anyone seen my false teeth?" added Rick Gravy.
While opinion was running broadly 90% in favour of burning Ms Heggessey and throwing the Dance and Movement Idents she introduced from a hovering orange and red balloon, the odd lone voice could be heard above the din with a different point of view.
"Well, I quite like some of the Dancer Idents," whispered one TV Forum member who does not wish to be named, for fear of flaming or even being forced to post on Metropol 24/7. "I might be a presentation fan, but I prefer to enjoy the programmes in between the idents."

Why can't it be done in-house? If it worked before 1991...

Sorry, the new controller is likely to know little about channel branding, and care even less. Any decisions will probably be made by people in marketing, and external agencies like Lambie Nairn - in other words, the people who came up with the current idents.

I certainly don't believe they'll be doing that. Especially with the good ratings Neighbours is getting at the moment both in Australia and the UK.

Guardian article on the subject mentions plans to scrap Neighbours and replace it with something from BBC Manchester. Nice one!!!

They may know little about branding, but I've seen it so often in both radio and TV: when a new boss takes over, they're always desperate to make their mark. One of the quickest and most effective ways of doing this is to change the branding (whether that means getting an external company in or whatever). It's human nature.
So the likelihood is that the branding will be changed, by someone who knows little about branding. And people here think this is a good thing?

I hope someone with a decent knowledge of what the public wants ident wise takes over.

Now she'll have to produce what the Networks want not push the production companies into silly ideas.
It will be interesting to see how the dog performs when being walked rather than the other way around.

Perhaps someone could suggest to BBC Four that we have a "Time Shift" on BBC idents - we've had nearly everything else about BBC tv covered in the series - a history of the interlude, the Magic Roundabout, history of children's news. They could dig out the tape of how the previous version of the BBC 2 idents were made (was it onHow Did They Do That?). Perhaps the programme could be timed to coincide for whenever we do get new idents in the future?
