Not necessarily, despite what some on here think. According to the Media Guardian, one possible successor is Nigel Pickard from ITV - is everyone sure he'd be an improvement?

Why is she being credited with 'The Blue Planet' i thought that was about 5 years in the making, it just happened to air when she was there.

that Media Guardian report appears to link virtually everybody in senior employment at a terrestrial station.

I hope someone with a decent knowledge of what the public wants ident wise takes over. Also, we need more programming that would interest everybody. For example, you never see any programmes about TV presentation or computers etc etc. Just soaps and things similar. Rolling Eyes

(Sorry about my editing. Can't spell today. Confused )

'Click Online' is about technology and computers.

Not sure if there would be much call for a programme about idents. The subject would be pretty much exhausted after one show!

Yeah but thats on News 24. They need to bring things like that on to BBC One or even Two.

I agree about the TV presentation thing but they should introduce a media programme with things from the TV/Radio world instead.

You think the job's more likely to go to a tea lady from Cadburys?

Sorry, the new controller is likely to know little about channel branding, and care even less. Any decisions will probably be made by people in marketing, and external agencies like Lambie Nairn - in other words, the people who came up with the current idents.

They may know little about branding, but I've seen it so often in both radio and TV: when a new boss takes over, they're always desperate to make their mark. One of the quickest and most effective ways of doing this is to change the branding (whether that means getting an external company in or whatever). It's human nature.

no my point was that it's hard to take anything from a report which names just about everybody as a 'possible' successor. Of course they're bloody 'possible'

I would have thought the appointment would be in-house.
