Time for the globe to come back if you ask me.

Interestingly News 24 said that one of the problems for the next controller would be EastEnders and what to do with it.

Frankly, considering the populist output of the channel, that's the least of their problems.

This is good news?

Although it will be low down on the priorities, I would hope for new idents etc. in the near future. It is very unlikely that the globe will return, but I would hope for something more suitable.

Interestingly, doing a sweep on Google News, the Indy was running her departure was down to the current round of budget cuts. Couldn't get to the full article because the sods are charging for access. Tsk.

The letter from Jana that is quoted in that article is spot on. She will be missed within the corporation. She was great fun to work with, and had a real passion and enthusiasm for popular, public service TV. She'll be a tough act to follow - and I think has made a very sensible decision to leave whilst the channel is in such good form.

Be interesting to see who gets to take over - it is a really tricky job. Too many viewers and you are accused of being commercial, too few and you jeopardise the very future of the licence fee. BBC One is by far the most important BBC outlet - as it is the most popular. The job is key to the survival of the BBC as we know it - or even as we don't yet know it.

There is a lot more to channel controller than chosing the idents...

And commisioning decent programmes, sorting out the crap which is the Six O' Clock News, making the channel appear modern and classy and not pandering to focus groups etc. Yes, it's a tricky job. Let's hope that someone competent can assume the position.

Shall I mention choosing tie colours?

No, perhaps not!
