Speculation is abound that BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey is preparing to quit her post to take up a new job offer.

Heggessey is widely tipped to be the replacement for Peter Fincham at the head of Talkback Thames, the company behind shows such as The Bill and How Clean Is Your House?

Although she has insisted she is "focussed" on her job at BBC One, a senior source told Broadcast that she "will probably be gone by June."

Potential successors for Heggessey at the BBC include Jane Tranter, controller of drama commissioning; Stuart Murphy, controller of BBC Three; and Alison Sharman, head of daytime.

Heggessey was appointed as BBC One controller in 2000, making her the channel's first female controller in its history.

- The sooner Heggessey goes, the better. In my opinion, since she tookover as BBC One controller, the channel has never been the same. We've already got rid of Louise Berridge and Kathleen Hutchinson, so lets get Heggessey out, before BBC1 gets any worse. I mean, those idents she came up with are vile, Saturday night TV on BBC1 is now appalling and the channel is losing its edge.

GET HER OUT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE Exclamation

I was just about to ask that! Still, there's time to delete the other threads as long as no-one replies.

Bye Bye dancer idents!

I hope they follow the example that BBC2 has set - bring in a male controller!

BBC2 has gone down hill though since Jane Root left - maybe they could get her back for BBC 1!

Lorraine Heggessey has been a disaster as controller of BBC 1 T.V. ,her decision to get rid of the globe and replace it with footage of silly dancing upset many people including myself. Another thing she will be remembered for was the way BBC T.V. reacted to the death of the Queen Mother, that sad event should have received the same level of coverage as the death of Princess Diana.

Ironic that she's about to leave and this is the first time I've seen her name spelt correctly on TV Forum Rolling Eyes

it upset you!?

Indeed.

Her love of everything red was reflected in the colour of the newsreader's tie.
