It was a "raw" version, that was shown by mistake - next week's episode will be back to the usual format (and look). ITV only realised what had happened when last night's episode was aired.

Thats quite a big ooops then... That said - I know quite a few broadcasters are painfully aware that it is getting easier and easier to broadcast the wrong version or wrong edition of a show, particularly as stuff moves from delivery on tape to file transfer. AIUI the BBC is overhauling its delivery system to try to stop this happening after a few "issues" recently...

Could a 'raw' episode have made it to transmission ? - seems odd to change the film style half way through the series.

I don't think it's a "raw" episode. There were all sorts of odd things in it that weren't just a lack of post-production - the actual shot selection was very strange, with weird panning shots, close-ups and a truly awful, suspension-of-disbelief-shattering sequence shot as if from a moving motorbike.

Whoever said it looked like a cheap show from the 1980s was right - I wondered if it might be a homage to something like Juliet Bravo (after all, it was quite a Dawson-centred episode). But the "next time" preview looked the same, unfortunately.

It happened once with Hollyoaks. But only particular scenes, rather than a whole programme, was affected.

The difference with Hollyoaks is considering how they quite regularly film a show in a different style, no one would consider it a mistake!

At that point (2001) it would have been. There was none of the fantasy sequences that are commonplace now and the show has never officially strayed from the filmed look.

Confused That made no sense at all...

I think it was a parody of all those cosy Sunday night dramas that blur allegedly into one homogeneous lump; in the eyes of adversaries to clean, light, family and gentle Sunday-night dramas. It is quite easy to mistake the outback of Africa with 1960s Yorkshire after all Wink

People tend to forget that Heartbeat still draws in a massive audience, and can give Emmerdale a run for its money still; The Royal doesn't do too badly either I don't think.

I noticed the changed in style too, with bizarre close-ups and shaky camera work, spoilt it for me. Why change the style the third episode into the series though-- seems odd Confused

Finally got the Grange Hill DVDs this morning. And guess what - a faux filmic effect has been applied to the interior scenes. Like it was to the Two Ronnies one Christmas.

Don't throw away your home tapings then.

Has it actually been confirmed anywhere it was a "raw" episode?
