I am with you on that... I think the latex puppets had a certain grotesque charm about them, that computer-animated effigies don't-- the latter is more clinical somehow.

While I agree that nothing will beat the first few series of Spitting Image , the first outing for Headcases certainly had me howling with laughter. I watched it again last night and laughed just as much!

If it continues with good writers it could become as popular and influential as Spitting Image was: it certainly had an effect on the careers of a few politicians and celebrities of the time.

Gordon Brown's image as a Dickensian miser probably isn't too far from people's perception of him anyway, so this caricature fuels a negative image. I can just imagine the "We're doomed" label being firmly attached to Alistair Darling Very Happy

The Robert Mugabe skit was inspired. I hope it gets to be shown down "zimbab...zimbab...way" sometime in the future Laughing

Well given the way the whole world seems to be disappearing down the gurgler at the moment the TV world is crying out for another Spit really.

Will have to take a look. Bremner and Culshaw in one show? Even ITV couldn't mess that up, could they?

It was boring tonight, more so then last week, don't think I laughed once and the Tory sketch went on too long to name one.

Edit: For anyone who's interested Jon Culshaw is tonight covering for Iain Lee on Virgin Radio till 1am.

Didn't like the Tory sketch tonight, but I howled at Mr.Al Fayed's "World of Conspiracies" Laughing That Fiat Uno crashing into the Titanic!

Saw it a few minutes ago on the ITV website thought William and Harry were good and I did think it was funny that Mohammed Al-Fayed reckoned that a Fiat Uno crashed into the Titanic. Didn't think it was as good as last week's to be honest.

I think it''s rubbish. If it wants to be the new Spitting Image it needs to go a bit further then every other impression show. It's far too tame at the minute.

The thing about SI was, it went for the jugular most of the time-- real biting satire. The Thatcher's vegetables sketch sums up how she (was to perceived to) treat her cabinet, for instance.

I watched Headcases last night, and I was underwhelmed. The Al-Fayed sketch was inspired, but the rest of it was tame I agree. They could have done something for more subversive with Robert Mugabe and Mucca.

Most of the impressions are also actually really poor considering the talent they've got on board.

Surprising they've got Bremner on board considering his own series returned to C4 this week too.

The impressions and the animation is pretty good, but it looks like they've concentrated on these rather than the writing. Very predictable and obvious humour, didn't watch it for long enough to check the writing credits
