The previous thread appears to have been archived, so have started a new one. Apologies if I've missed an already open one.

So Wednesday saw Sky HD go on general sale. The line-up of channels seems ok, but I'm not rushed to convert just yet. Do we have a timescale when more channels will be added? Will Sky News/News 24 be broadcast in Hi-Def format?

Terrestrial HD broadcasts will begin soon within the north and south circular in London soon, to be tested by 400 or so households. And idea when Freeview will be broadcasting HD services nationwide?

I wont be rushing either!

How many people actually care enough about the quality of the transmission to warrant spending more money on a superior picture?

Soon, Quizmania HD, wow I cant wait Very Happy

DTT HD won't happen nationwide before 2012 (switchoff) at the earliest.

The cost of the box is acceptable, being equipped with Sky+160 features and of course, HD capabilities, but the monthy subscription is just greedy.

Do you have to pay £10 a month subscription on top of the subscription costs of Sky+, or just the HD subscription.

HD DTT won't happen at all unless the government agree to restrict the frequencies to being used for that purpose. If they don't, and it is simply sold to the highest bidder, broadcasters will not be able to pay as much as other groups (such as telecoms). At this stage they haven't said what will be done with the spare frequencies after switch off.

There is no Sky+ subscription if you are a premium channel subscriber. The £10/month for Sky+ was ditched for movies and sport subscribers a while back, it is only levied on FTV and non-premium subscribers now.

The £10/month HD subscription IS for HD - so if you have Sky or Sky+ now and a Movies and Sports subscription you pay £10/month extra for the HD bits, plus the cost of the box. (Think you may get the Sky+ sub thrown in with just movies OR sport - but can't remember exactly)

Though you only pay a Sky+ subscription, now, if you are not a premium subscriber, as the £10/month Sky+ sub was ditched for premium channel subscribers quite a while ago.
