The fact that Tasmania has the highest rate of uptake is quite interesting, since one of their three commercial stations is exclusively on digital. There are several areas in Australia, mainly regional ones (off the top of my head Tasmania, Mildura, Griffith, Darwin, regional Western Australia, Broken Hill, and regional South Australia) where there are only two commercial analoguestations, as opposed to the three available in most parts of the country..some of these areas have been granted new digital licenses owned by a consortium of the two existing stations, and surprise surprise, higher uptake.

OFCOM have begun a review into Public Service Broadcasting which will no doubt bring up some "interesting" ways of dealing with what they see as problems. But, more suited to this topic, is this statement about the Digital Dividen Review, halfway through the executive summary (my emphisis):

Quote:
Large spectrum releases – especially the reuse of the analogue television spectrum – could enable new mobile television services, further digital terrestrial television channels and more wireless broadband. The reorganisation of the existing Freeview multiplexes will allow new services, including high definition channels, on digital terrestrial television as well as on cable and satellite.

There we go - HD on Freeview by reorganising the existing service, and mobile TV for the masses.

What's the point in these consultations when they seem to ignore general opinion - and even expert opinion.

This PSB review - yes there may be an issue with C4, but the only thing killing off PSB services on ITV is OFCOM. All they need to do is regulate properly so ITV are forced to deliver these services - with failure to do so simply resulting in the loss of affected regional franchises.
