With yesterday's BBC announcement, I'm giving it a bit of thought - the World Cup in HD would be pretty awesome, as would the second half of this series of 24.
Quote from Sky sales person standing on street I spoke to today regarding world cup HD trial: don't bother getting HD now - wait for about 9-15 months until its mainstream. The technology will be better, the prices will be lower and the content will be more widespread. And I agree - I'm not going to bother watching one 7/8 (optimism rules!!) -game England World Cup campaign in HD when I can watch an entire season in a year's time for half the price / less fuss. Compare and contrast digital terrestrial - boxes falling from £100 to £30 within 3 years of Freeview, and DVD players - falling from £200 in 2000 to £30 now.
I agree Alexia. Also remember when Sky Digital first launched and early adapters were forking out for their boxes, only for them to be given away as upgrades to existing subscribers some what, 12 months or so later?
I think Sky and co have taken too long to launch HD, I don't understand why it hasn't been launched earlier, even Premiere in Germany have launched in HD and are offering all World Cup Games in 16:9 HD and Dolby Digital!
HDTVs are too expensive here in the UK, until I can pick one up for less than £300, then I am not interested, its nto as if I can't see the pictures on my SDTV

Sky have waited because they needed a stock of boxes to sell. There are MPEG4 chip shortages across Europe and Premiere may struggle to keep up with demand.
