There's an article in the Daily Mirror today apparently giving evidence that 'Most Haunted' is fake. Parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe sensationally spilled the beans today explaining that he tricked Derek into a faked story. Right enough Derek said it on air
A very interesting article with plenty of evidence (here). Comes at a very interesting time with Most Haunted Live on this weekend!
And to think that all these years I was convinced by the idea... I mean, good old Yvette always found SOMETHING weird, didn't she? Nothing to do with the fact that her production company made the thing, and she and her husband are entirely dependent upon the programme for income and that if they didn't find anything nobody would watch, no no. Of course not.
As for Derek Acorah being a fake, when he's such a GREAT actor, who just happens to be posessed by spirits whenever they go live, but as soon as they turn the cameras off he's fine again. Wow. I wouldn't have credited it.
I'm sure there is an element of truth to the Mirror report, but I don't believe that the whole thing is a fake. Perhaps they sensationalise some aspects to make it TV-worthy, and I have never believed totally in Derek's abilities. My late-Mum was a medium, so I believe 100% that the sort of things portrayed in the programme can and do happen.
Derek is leaving the programme, so it will retain it's integrity with the new medium, but I doubt if his new show on LivingTV will manage to develop such a following of genuine believers after this article.
The article reminds me of a spoil-sport kid who'd ruin a magic show by pointing out how things are done all the time.
As Cat's pointed out in his own inimitable style, we all know it's boll0cks really, but the fun of watching it is being able to suspend disbelief for a while.
It's all a bit like pointing out the strings on Thunderbirds.
How convenient that all this controversy should emerge just in time for the episode in question to be shown, thus guaranteeing increased interest in the show.
