I'm sure a city like Durham must have been on tv with something exciting happening - I just haven't ever seen anything exciting happening...!

My village has been on TV a few times:

TV News: when someone was murdered here in... oooh, about 1993, I think. I particularly remember the old school bullies being hauled in for questioning!

Tomorrow's World: there was a piece on the future of supermarkets about 5 years ago which was filmed in the big 'out-of-town' (i.e. in our village, where it's not welcome, AFAIC) supermarket just the other side of the ridge from me.

Against The Odds: BBC docu-drama series, circa 1996. One of the true-life stories concerned some friends of mine and it was all filmed locally. I was filmed for an establishing shot (back to camera, walking away and half-hidden by a horse) but didn't make the final cut.

And there's a historical documentary coming out next year on the BBC, for which some of the reconstructions were filmed in the grounds of the local community centre. I know this because I stumbled upon the filming by accident! Lucky they were just setting up at the time or I'd have probably ended up on Auntie's Bloomers.

My city has its own documentary series about its cathedral every Sunday afternoon on Carlton Central until Christmas.

Central News East feature it when they can.

Central News West try to fit the city in, but they like to try to link everything to Birmingham, so I hate that.

My home town was on the news recently (Meridian Tonight). It was about the near-by village of Overton protesting to keep their river. The river had been boarded up so nobody could see it. The bloke who owns the river lived across the road from where I used to live.

Hope that helps.

My old town - although I only live about 5 miles from it now - was on BBC News 24 and One O'Clock News as well as Calendar, Look North and Sky News when the local Nat West bank was being held up.

It was even on Crimewatch last month when they were trying to catch the robbers!
